Engine spray down

I got a 93 gt and I live down a dusty road and I really want to clean the engine compartment out...well just spray down with my pressure washer. I've asked friends and some tell me to cover some stuff up and others just tell me to leave it running and spray away so I figured I would get yalls take on things.

Re: Engine spray down

You definitely have to be careful when spraying down the engine. I personally never do it because I don't want to chance damaging anything, but it certainly can be done.

Either use the least forceful pressure jet to rinse the engine or a hose with a sprayer that has the fan styled soaker setting.

Make sure the engine is not hot, wait for it to cool before spraying it. It also wouldn't hurt to cover up electrical components/wiring/air filter with a clear bag or tin foil or something along those lines. This way water won't penetrate and damage any critical components.

I'd use some sort of cleaner on the black plastics and hoses as well to keep them clean and looking like new.

We recently added Adams Polishes as a site sponsor...check them out for quality cleaning products. They are also offering a 15% discount to site members on purchases.

You should be fine. Just cover your coils with plastic bags and leave it running. Oh and don't do it after the engine has been running for a long length of time, meaning go do it from a cold start and warm up.

Re: Engine spray down

Like said above I would think twice about power washing your motor area. If you do be very careful I have heard storys about having issues after that is done.

Is it that bad that you cant do it by hand made and made a lite hose down only.

Thanks guys guess I'll cover up stuff and use the hose and my thumb. I just really baby this car and I popped the hood the other day and saw the dust/dirt and it's been stuck in the back of my mind ever since. I love this car so much I got a door ding in it last fall came home and walked around the car saw it and flipped the f@ck tossing a case of water across the living room. Along with cussing ever white trash crack smoking MF'er in my dads town.

I have power washed my old 98 and it did mess **** up, I would use cherry bomber come up electrical components and air filter the spray it down with cherry bomber let it set for a few minutes the use the house right after dry it off with a microfiber cloth, should look awesome, I use to work in a wash bay for a BIG car lot, done this mire then a few times on wrecked cars that got fixed, with all the left over from the auto body. Will shine up nicely! Send pics.

Do not wash your engine!!! You can fry your computer. Happened at a detail shop I worked at. Plus if take your time it'll look better by hand.
