Need exhaust leak help 98 GT

My car has a popping/ticking noise and smells like exhaust right next to the noise so I assumed it's the manifold gasket, any advice on how to go about changing it, seems more complicated then a 60s car was wondering if there was a trick so I can do it in my garage with as little nuckle busting and cussing as possible, thanks

you need to get under there and locate the leak, it might just be a connection or a small rust hole etc. Once you find it let us know where it is.

I am not sure how hard headers are, not horrible I am sure but it wont be an easy area to work in no doubt.

Re: Need exhaust leak help 98 GT

not sure how tight the 98's engine bay is, its prolly just as tight as the 04's its a ***** and a half, not even going to sugar coat it, if its the drivers side (mine was drivers side) its a wee bit easier, but not much. the bolts are a pain to get to, but try to tighten them first before you go and get new gaskets, when i had my headers put in the stock gaskets didnt look that bad. i started to hear the same noise with my new headers, but the bolts just needed to be re-torqued, so try that first, if not then replace the gasket.

Couldn't get in there really good but the noise turned into loud pulsing/throbbing and I'm running really lean on that bank.....
