Stalling out randomly?

My GT has been randomly stalling out when I sit at a stop light or stop sign. It doesn't die every time but the rpms will drop from 750 to less than 500. Not a constant thing but has been happening fairly often. Any idea what this could be caused from?

Re: Stalling out randomly?

could be the idle air control (IAC) or also known as idle bypass valve. They tend to go bad and they control the idle of the car.

It might also be (or in combination with) the mass air meter so clean the sensor.

and as said above the AC can lower rpms when running

Re: Stalling out randomly?

do you have an after-market mass air flow sensor?

Re: Stalling out randomly?

or is the current maf rotated differently than from the factory or in a different location (aftermarket intake etc)?

My car use to do that alot too. Just clean your IAC MAF throttle body. I changed my cam and crank sensors and the problem stopped.

Ac on or off, either way it happens. No aftermarket intake or mass airflow sensor. I'll take the advice I've received from you all and update if there's a change. Thanks for all the help.

Re: Stalling out randomly?

yea buy some ON contact non residue electronic cleaner, remove the MAF sensor (tamper proof torx bit I believe and you can get to yours if its not inside the air box). If you are not sure what the MAF sensor it let us know.

Be easy getting it out/in and spray it down with cleaner good. The next thing is the IAC little round thing on the throttle body or right around it. You can apparently clean it by taking it off hosing it down and draining the stuff out~ it might be easier to just replace it.

I know what the MAF Sensor is but I'm not sure what the IAC is... there are a couple of different little round things around the throttle body. How can I tell which one is the right one?

The IAC is on the plenum. It has a wire hooked up to it. Its in the front.

Two bolts hold it on. It's usually right on the throttle body. It's a syliniod so it's pretty decent size. Around three inches long. Usually a small air hose running too it

Cleaned the MAF and IAC and my car is running like a BEAST! No more stalling out/rough idle... and I can feel a major difference in throttle response. This forum probably saved me $300 in "dignostic" and "labor" charges if I put it in the shop.
