My New 2002 GT

Hello, I just a few weeks ago got my second car (My fist being a 2000 F-150 XLT 4.6L) from the local used car dealer. It has after market wheels (the rear wheel crome in pitting unfortunately) They have the cobra R symbols in the middle of them, the wheels look good but some Bullitt wheels will be in the far future when I have the money. It also has the Mach 1 grill. The day after I got it I spent 5 hours with cleaning and using turtle wax ice clab bar kit which works amazing. I am completly new to mustangs and in need of some basic info. A simple list of everything stock on a mustang gt premium with auto trans would be very helpfull. Also when I get into it with the TC on and im using the 1,2,D when I put it into 2 it will break the tires lose and shift very firm, is this stock or is there something else on this car I dont know about?

Thanks for any help, Andrew

Welcome to the forum. Nice stang. I would get it lowered first thing. But about it being stock i have no idea maybe someone else will chime in and help you on that part.

Getting it lowered is on my list, I will probably get a CAI before that but I will need to save up some money first

As far as it being stock im not positive on what you want to know. I can tell you the first thing yur gunna want to upgrade is the plugs wires and coil pack, get everything in tune. Find your local mustang tuner get it tuned up. Get a intake and Exaust. That should put you close close to 300 at the fly and having it sound nice with a little hiss. Go with ngk plugs msd wire and coil pack. There not cheap but well worth the money. I have a k&n intake and it's doing me well. It'll be well worth you money. If you want some cheap things to get the hp up send me a message I'll send you a list.

Also throw a nice gear ratio in there. I personally like 3.90 it's not to high so you still have pick up in higher end gears. Yet it pulls hard in low end.

To answer your question about barking your tires in the 1st to 2nd shift, if it DIDN'T do that, then somethings wrong lol. I had an 02 v6 that chirped them everytime doing that so if your v8 doesn't do it stock, then like I said earlier, somethings wrong.

Why are you manually shifting the auto out of curiosity? The computer can do a much better job not to mention quicker.

I personally think that it shifts harder when I use the 1 2. Some day I will got to the strip and try it out but right now I need to do some basic matinence like change the transmission fluid and put new anitfreez in (I looked at both of those liquids and there looking a little dirty)

Re: My New 2002 GT

welcome

Nice looking GT. As said, get the maintenance stuff done first.

Then let the fun begin...

Lowering is always a critical mod as our cars are absolutely jacked from the factory.
Exhaust, CAI, intake plenum, and underdrive pulleys are the common bolt ons for the 2v's.

Gears and a tune are the next step as the tuner will make the bolt ons more effective and allow you to adjust for the gear change.

As far as your car...

Looks to be a 2002 GT Coupe with the premium package.

It came with all the usual options on the GT's that year...hood scoop, fog lights, leather interior, traction control, Mach 460.

What do you actually want to know about your car in stock form...engine specs, options, interior/exterior features?

Specific stuff like the rear end info, what gears came stock. Also my passanger side window when going up about 3/4 the way up it makes a thunk noise and contunes up but stops early. Any ideas on whats going on?

The 99-04 GT's have the 28 spline 8.8" with the 8.8" traction lok differential. The stock gearing is 3.27..most manual guys upgrade to 3.73's and autos upgrade to 4.10's.

Your window may be coming off the track slightly or the motor may be intermittent, possibly going bad. I personally have never had any issues with my windows. Someone who has may have better info.

I prefer 3.90 In a manual and 4.10 auto. And alot of mustangs get track dissalignment in the window it depends some times the track just needs to be re glued or even bearing needs to be replaced. I had the same issue in both my windows and so did my cousin and they were all different.

There decent all around gears. They're not bad on high way. I'm actually on the highway right now with my 3.90 and I'm doing 90 with amazing pick up too

Hey man, hate to dog on you but that's straight bull****.
Intake and exhaust don't give 40hp or even close to that.
An intake nets a couple if you're lucky and exhaust isn't much more.
Flywheel horsepower? That's ricer garbage too man. Men deal in rwhp, period.
A cam, heads, and tune will BARELY get you 300. Ask me how I know.

Welcome nice Mustang I had the same problem with both my windows and it turned out to be broken slider guides and I had to replace both hinges. Like said above also the motor maybe heading out the door. Mine also is a 2002 Gt with auto trans and wouldn't have it any other way. I haven't done much to mine yet but what I have done is a CAI, and just the occasional engine dress up. Most of my work has been done to the interior with billet pieces. I like to show mine off more than anything. But exhaust has got to be number one in my book for upgrades. Just remove mufflers and let her roar.

it doesnt... cold air intake might get you 5hp... might. exhaust (if you get rid of the cats) might give you 10. might... you cant go by what the websites say. ive built a few cars. i know some numbers... and i can promise you that putting exhuast and an cai on a pi 4.6 will not net you around the same hp as a factory 96-98 cobra... just aint happening.most cai's are hyped up and really dont do a dang thing for you. dont just trust what the cai claims. the numbers they give are not accurate.

Re: My New 2002 GT

lets not get rude here, not everyone knows that intake/exhaust on a pre 05 mustang isnt really going to give you much of anything hp/tq wise (other than on 03/04 cobras ) we are all here to learn, not put down one another.

Please get back on topic and no more rude posts plz.
