Re: cobra question

you have more than one way to look at it, the opinions on which car is best based on appearance and such can be made either way, thats for you to decide (body style, interior quality upgrade, and the things that dont really matter in performance or upkeep/reliability)

Its going to be harder to find used parts for 03/04's as they are older and Ford stops making parts after 8 years... which they are at.

On the other side of the coin when it comes to the car itself the 03/04 is FAR superior in the performance department stock.. and is VERY VERY easy to modify since it comes stock with a supercharger and a built motor.

You can easily have 450-500rwhp on an 03/04 cobra and have it 100% daily driveable and safe... .and thats just for starters. The limits seem to be 600-650rwhp for most.

An 05+ GT will end up at around 450rwhp and thats it until you drop major coin to build the motor... and getting it to go above 320ish rwhp takes a power adder

plus 03/04 are more rare~ and will be worth more down the road 10 years

Re: cobra question

yeah im not gonna lie spectorv your car is freakin nice! matter of fact i think your car is what got me to love those cobras because around where i live its rare to find those. the older style bodies to me are better looking. they arent as bulky looking as the new ones. would 18,000 be a reasonable price for a cobra in great shape? stock everything

If you can find a stock 03/04 cobra, 18k should be able to find you a very low mileage car.

However, at the same time, that 18k should be able to find you a nicely modded 03/04 cobra right now. Nicely modded meaning tuned, exhaust work, basic bolt ons (CAI, shifter, etc)...and probably ported and/or upgraded super charger. I've seen a number of whippled and kb cobras go for 18-20k lately.

Re: cobra question

That depends. If you want it bone stock to do all the mods yourself, then it would be better to get a stock one.

However, if you plan on modding the car, it might be easier to search for one that already has those mods. You'll get it for roughly the same price as a stocker and save yourself the cost of the parts and labor (if you don't install them yourself).

So, if you plan to leave it stock, it's best to find a stocker. IF you plan to mod it...it might make more sense to find a modded one that has the same or similar mods that you plan on doing.

Re: cobra question

makes a lot of sense.. even though i like working on cars i probably will end up getting one with the more major mods already installed and just installing the minor mods my self... well thats if i can find one in that condition. lol

Re: cobra question

It will be a lot easier to find a modded one than a stocker. Stockers are a dying breed. As owners get tired of them, they sell them...and the odds the new buyer wants to keep it stock are slim...specially with it's reputation for power.

Re: cobra question

the trick for 03/04 cobras is getting one stock (maybe exhaust) or getting one that was modded RIGHT by someone that KNOWS what they were doing. They can have issues if they are not tuned right, much more so than an N/A motor... and they have no knock sensor (detonation can be very bad for them)

I agree on the 03-04 cobra being far superior but 450whp on a S197 isnt the limit. Many S197 owners have been running more than that for years and been safe. But it is a gamble,a gamble that I personaly wouldnt take.Also,320whp on a 05-10 without a power adder is very attainable. Many have gone 330ish to 360ish whp without a a power adder. But again like Spec said the 03-04 is the bomb diggidy......thats not what he said but you get the picture, lol.

true, my friends 06 GT is about 480rwhp but.. I would say 450rwhp is the safe limit. Those with more it then comes down to how its driven and treated as well as some dynos read higher~

for 360rwhp on an 05+ gt... how? without going into the motor I am not sure ive ever seen one that high. I would believe 330 but much more than that starts getting very hard to do and not cheap.

Re: cobra question

Cams, full exhaust, pulleys,CAI and a good dyne tune. It all depends what you consider a "power adder" I consider cams a bolt on even though you have to get into the engine but some people don't.

Favorable dyno, perfect weather conditions (ie, cold), and/or fudging the numbers with the different correction factors.

Or, being like LSUStang and throwing out HP numbers based on mods without actually ever being on a dyno.

Re: cobra question

You are right there is always gonna be that whole dyno # and perfect weather conditions question but I'm referring to a friends car that had pretty much every bolt on and Murrillo dyno tune. It made right around the range of 363whp.....but like you said.....its a dyno.
