2001 GT Headers

I have a 2001 GT, Auto, 3.73 gears, 70mm intake, cool air exhaust, under drive pulleys, JBA shorties, Bassani x-pipe and cat-backs, Steeda 1.5 lowering springs, power programmer/tuner. Turning 309hp at rear wheel on dyno. I need to replace the headers (weld cracked). I am considering long tubes. Any ideas on which type of header works best? Can long tubes connect to Bassani x-pipe? Are long tubes worth the money and hassle, or just stick with shorties?

Re: 2001 GT Headers

wow, those numbers are pretty high imo. i have an 04 gt with jlt cai, bbk lt's, bbk xpipe and flowmaster cb and on an 87 dyno tune i made 244/275. i have heard the longtubes are a bit better, as they flow better, so ive heard. and depending on the brand of lt, will determine whther it will fit to the bassani. the bbk lt will only fit a bbk x-pipe that is made specifically for the lt's.

Re: 2001 GT Headers

Thanks. The problem is that Bassani does not make headers for an automatic, so I have to cross brands. I've heard long tubes are better, but they are not worth replacing the Bassani exhaust I have. I love the Bassani sound! (BTW - I made a typo on the hp - it's actually 306, not 309).

Re: 2001 GT Headers

you can leave the bassani cb on, just swap out the mid pipe.

I don't think anybody makes LT's for an auto but not for sure. I have longtubes and they made a huge difference in power.

wow those numbers are two high, long tubes will help but are a major pita. I would get my tune rechecked on another dyno cuz if they are scewing the numbers who knows what else they may have done.

Re: 2001 GT Headers

What they said about the longtubes....

As far at power output, on a dynojet, you should be in the 250 range with 27x or so tq.......... No way are you making 300 plus whp.

Re: 2001 GT Headers

I went with BBK tuned, ceramic-coated shorties - with my mods we were only talking 5 to 10 hp, not enough to deal with the hassle of long tubes. The car sounds much better, and the tone is deeper than the JBA's. I like it!

BTW - made several typos/errors on the original post - cool air intake being one - and rear wheel hp being the other - turning 248 at the rear wheel. Ran two dyno tunes after installing the BBK's, ran 247 then 248.

Side note - cool air intakes suck - go with the Steeda intake - what a waste of $180!! I feel so cheated.

Next goal - super-charged!
