Strange engine swap idea

Ok so I just got done talkin to my buddy back in the states and he told me that he was gonna try and put a 97 F-150 engine in to the engine bay of his 03 Mustang. Does anyone els think that this is a strange swap to do?

Is his 03 a Gt? And yes it is. I wouldn't suggest it.

Re: Strange engine swap idea

Yeah its a GT. I told him that its probably not the best idea. He blew his engine, so now he says he is gonna do something that he has never heard of anyone doing before.

It probably has never been done before for a reason.

I told him that but he don't listen. He said he is going to be the first to successfully do it. I told him it would probably be cheaper to buy a new mustang.

Re: Strange engine swap idea

it can be done but its not logical to do it, it will fit just as good as the 4.6 he has. but here is the difference. f150 have different cams in them. they make less power.
in 97 the power for a f150 4.6 was 220 and torque was 265. the 03 mustang gt put out 260hp and 302 lbs of torque. so why would he want to do this? and if he is thinking about the 5.4 (which still will fit just as easy) still only has 230 hp but 335 torque at 3300 rpm. which he will be racing at much higher rpms. can be done but you dont really gain any power. you lose it...

ive done it. its not that impressive... we put a 5.4 in. now from a launch it dug hard. but once you got to 4000 to 6000 rpm the power just wasnt there...

Dont know why he wants to do it. He gets these ideas and wont listen to what you tell him. He always has to learn the hard way.

it will fit in there no problem. he just wont have power like he is thinking. the f150 and mustang have the same block, heads, crank, pistons... but the cam duration and lift is different resulting in lower power... if he want to i say let him. but get him to get something newer than 97. dont downgrade... (well if he does the swap to a truck engine he is downgrading...)

Re: Strange engine swap idea

Haha. Well I said he should at least try and put an 07 F-150 engine in instead. He said he is doing the 97 cuz he has a totaled 97 F-150 at his dads house so he don't have to buy an engine.

07 would be harder because it's a 3 valve engine and the sensors and wiring harness are different.

Either way. He is gonna do things his way. He just loves doing things the hard way and is always dissapointed with the outcome.

Hope he don't try and put that crap on the truck engine. It will blow. Can't hold up like a mustang engine can...

Then tell him to get a 04 cobra engine and stroke it to a 5.0. Get some comp cams and he will have a fast f***ing car

Yeah, but he actually has sepnt his money on friends cars. My sister-in-law's fiance needed a new tranny for his car and my friend bought it for him, and he said that he don't have to pay him back.
