New Shifter.....No Backup Lights Now!

I put in a steeda tri-ax shifter in my 02 GT and now no backup lights. What do I do?

What you mean by that is it adjusted correctly? I adjusted the shift stops how the instructions say.

The reason I ask is because the switch is in the transmission. And if you shifter isn't engaging reverse enough the switch will not be activated.

Well it engages reverse but no lights I will try to adjust and see if it helps.

It could be engaging but just not far enough to engage the switch.

Or your switch could've gone bad at the same time. Less likely but still could happen. Mine went bad, about $30-$40 at the stealership, and not hard to change out.

back off the shift stops so there is no change the handle will touch them, they are rather useless anyway as the trans has internal stops.

This is only true in our T56's if I remember right. T5's and T45's do not have built in internals.

Still think I remember it being the T56 is the only one with internal shift stops. But, I could be wrong. The shifter instructions would have told you NOT to use the stops had the transmission it's designed for had internals. Just like the instructions for the T56 shifters do.
