Need advise.

I've a 97 GT with 207000 miles, I am looking into an 05-09 used motor to replace the old. My ?'s are how hard would this sit up be, and would the 05-09 gt 3V work w the auto I had rebuild that came with the 97?

Don't put a 3v in there, get a 99-04 motor and you should do the tranny too

Yeah I was thinking the 3v motor Mayb to much to hassle with, but wouldn't an 99-2004 motor fit RT to the auto tranny in my 97? Just spent a good deal to rebuild it don't wanna swap out the tranny unless I really have to.

Re: Need advise.

its probably far easier to install a 4v 4.6L out of a cobra and end up with 300hp~ same basic end result... or buy an 03/04 cobra motor

Ahh duh thanks spectorV forgot about the grt 4v motor. Now what about ecu and wiring harness? I know if I can strip an wrecked one I can get all that stuff, but if I buy an 4v motor from a salvage yard or from another state and they dont offer those things what would I do? Super new to this obviously lol

Re: Need advise.

you will probably require a new harness and computer but I am not 100% sure on all of it~ one thing though to think about is in 96 for example it was not a coil on plug design I dont believe, used a coil pack setup for ignition, then later on maybe 99 they swapped to coil on plug design~ just something else to look into.

Also the mach 1 engines are basically the same as the cobras.

Re: Need advise.

you could keep it on the cheap and go with a PI swap for the 97 GT and rebuild the motor~

Re: Need advise.

the only down side using a 99-04 is you are still at 260hp where if you put heads on your 97 engine it will bump up the compression a bit and raise it up to around 285~ not a good or bad really just an FYI

The wires that connect to the fuel pump for power. Works great when it's not wired in reverse ha!! The BBK after market 190 LPH fuel pump requires u to splice into the wires for thr plug in feature to the fuel pump. I had to many coors I guess
