exhaust question... (04 GT)

Hey guys... while the car is under the appearance knife... i noticed when she was in the air... that something dawned on me... why hasnt anyone tackled on the true dual exhaust set up like i believe its the GTO's from the same years... dont get me wrong i know they have a larger motor and all that good jazz... but is there a reason why we are only offered an x or h pipe? is there a huge reason to having either set up other than sound? what we have come up with to not sacrifice power and still do a dual side exhaust is actually kind of hard to explain without pictures but i will do my best. we were looking at running from the headers > instead of coming to the H or X intersection actually going the opposite way right off the bat and heading towards the front of the SFC's and then running between the SFC's and the side skirts. (the skirts are also with the hood receiving a makeover so dont worry about visibility from the side) and then just cutting an creating the exit on the side like all other mustang side exhaust setups.

any technical or personal input is much wanted and encouraged. thanks guys and gals

I am not really sure what you are talking about doing, are you talking about not having a balance pipe of any kind? You have to have that on an odd fire engine or it runs bad

Re: exhaust question... (04 GT)

Yah it sounds like you basically want an F-body exhaust, which isn't and never will be a true dual setup, on your GT.

I personally wouldn't want that...hell 90% of the v6 mustangs out there with modded exhaust are true duals.

You would basically be taking your exhaust from the headers down to one pipe, into one muffler, and out to 2 pipes, very similar to an aftermarket SI/DO truck exhaust.

Re: exhaust question... (04 GT)

no no no... not headers into one exhaust into a dual...

basically it would be headers to the downpipes and instead of meeting up for the X where they connect.. as soon as they come down from the headers they head towards the outside of the car towards the side skirts... here i will draw a quick reference in paint. gimme a couple mins

ok the black lines are the headers... the grey lines are the stock exhaust set up with an off road x pipe... the red is the route I want to take, and the yellow are my SFC's

Re: exhaust question... (04 GT)

basically something like a side exit exhaust ( old school had side pipes )
you'll get MORE power from an H - OR X Pipe

I see...yah basically a true/simple setup for sidepipes. You could get extreme and leave the stock catback and still run the sidepipes...something similar to that Shelby GT350

Re: exhaust question... (04 GT)

how is it that you get more power from an H or X... gotta remember im still learning a lot about motors and power as I go along.. but I always thought the less restrictions the easier it was to have power... thus avoiding unnecessary bends and what not in an exhaust. so wouldnt the shorter route, with less bends equal out to better power? along with the proper exhaust size too.

How about this? Do a side exhaust setup, but have a balancing tube welded right after the headers connect to the side pipes? Best of both worlds
