What do yall think? Roush

My cousin in law has this stage 2 roush he wants to sell me he is buying an 03 cobra. Some pics he sent me i havent seen it in person yet i will be goin to look at this weekend. I dont know much about it but when i go look at it i will look more into it.
What is the difference between the stages and a regular gt? I know the body kit and suspension is different and i kno stage 3 has a supercharger.

It's sick, stage one is all looks, stage 2 is a little performance and looks. Stage 3 is fully loaded. Anything wrong with it? If he's gunna get rid of it for a decent price I'll take it.

Basically:

Stage 1: body kit/side exhaust, rims, and basic interior stuff

Stage 2: same as stage 1, but with full suspension

Stage 3: same as stage 2, but supercharged

Re: What do yall think? Roush

i would pass on the color alone, not a fan of zinc yellow.... and Roush vehicles in those years dont hold their value very well (bank value)

Thanks for that reply SpectorV, and yes I see what you mean about that color, I could not really see it myself and I wrote it. So what's your opinion on "Whipple"??

Your correct but it depends on the options selected at the time of build of course because you could have upgraded the brakes, interior and so on.

1999-2003 Roush Mustang Stage 2 Overview

Roush didn't do many of the yellow models and by the picture it looks like it's the older style front clip which were poorly documented.

Here is the production numbers list...

Roush Vehicle Production Numbers By Year

I really like mine, the side exhaust is medium (not too loud but not quite like stock), the looks are amazing and it handles like it's on rails with the adjustable Bilstiens.

Only real issue on the stage 2 is that the front struts are not made anymore, if you need replacements you will want to upgrade them to a higher bilstien or equivalent and stay away from stock GT struts or it handles poorly.

The side exhaust mufflers do hang low but a normal exhaust shop can shorten the exhaust hangers and get you another inch of clearance. Once you know where you can and can't go it's not a problem. Change the mufflers to Spintechs and you'll gain another 1/2" of clearance and the side skirts will then be the lowest points.

Re: What do yall think? Roush

Oh and when it comes to value the basic rule of thumb has been you take the value of the equivalent GT and then add 50% of the package price to the value. When I bought mine it had the original sticker from Roush still so I knew that the package with options was a little over 10K, so add approx. 5K to the value of the same GT.

Thanks. Thats some really good stuf to know. If i do get it ima take it straight to a shop to get the hangers shortened. He told me the year but i forgot what he told me. Other than struts and exhaust what else should i be looking for? And what are some of the upgrades roush did that i would need to look for?

Depending on what year the car actually is will then allow you to verify if it's a true Roush or Roush clone if your not 100% sure from the previous owner or don't have the supporting paperwork. The early 99-04's weren't documented very well but if you have a later one they will have a Roush S/N sticker on the passenger door jam and a modified by Roush sticker on the drivers side door jam.

If you look at my garage you'll see the pictures of what i'm talking about since I added a few of mine.

The body kits are still being made and alot of people upgrade the front clip to the stage 3 version which is what mine came from Roush with.

They are very nicely put together cars.

Re: What do yall think? Roush

I don't have a picture of it in my garage or my phone but my 03 also has a Stage 2 Dash plaque to the right of the steering wheel and Roush 2 on the rear. Not sure if they were on the earlier 99-04's but the later ones did. This is what they look like from pics I found online quick.

Oh ok cool. I didnt kno it said roush 2 on the back i knew it did next to the steering wheel. Well its an 01 with 60xxx miles. He says its a real roush. Ima call roush performance in a bit to see what they say about it. I was looking up in 2002 they only made 12 zinc yellow stage 2 roushes. I wonder how many are in 2001.

Re: What do yall think? Roush

Roush in those years were just GT's so the VIN still says GT... banks recognize it as a GT (just like the Shelby GT's are recognized in the early years if not all years as just GT's so the loan value and thus most people's idea of value is much lower on that car....

You are correct since the VIN does not change for the modification. That actually is still a problem with all Roush's and speciality mustangs. When I bought mine, the dealership explained that they are a hard sell to some people when they price out the car...their example was a 2010 sitting in the show room, it was priced 12K above the equivalent GT, so anyone purchasing the car was turned off when they would have to put down nearly 10K+ to get it to the value that the bank would loan. They did explain that some people would get an auto loan to cover the GT value and then get a personal loan to cover the rest.

Luckily since I bought used with 7,800 miles the GT value was high and with my trade in, didn't run into any problems with the negotiated price.

This is what I found on the 2001's...

2001 Roush Stage 2 production
Coupes = 354
Conv. = 208
Total = 562

no breakdowns on colors unfortuantely but I would expect it to be very low on the yellows. Mine in 2003 for the Dark Shadow Gray with the Stage 2 package is 1 of 40.

fnsweet.com may have a color breakdown per year, zinc yellow will be rare... but because its not a popular color... I know i wouldnt want it.
