New to the site! a question has brought me here.

Hello, I found an app for this community on the Android store, awesome deal since I have been reading everything I can for the last 10 days about my new project. My girl and I, purchased a 1998 GT, with a spun bearing or two. Mainly the purchase was a sentimental one for her. I promptly spun the rest of it, while shaking it down for bugs.

It has been sitting in a garage for a year now waiting for the right time. And that time is now. 7 days ago I purchased a 5.4 liter motor out of a expedition. Let the fun begin. Here is a list of what I have for this build so far:

The 5.4 stripped of accessories, minus headers, and intake mani.
The 4.6 with a oil leaking bottom end, minus a battery, plus a flat tire
An engine stand
A engine lift, aka. cherry picker?
2 garages to work in
Decent tools, and a good jack and stands

Known needed items:
Something to lift the motor with, straps or chains?
A 8 bolt manual tranny flywheel
Adapter plates for 4.6 intake attachment (rather have the correct manifold)
Valve covers

And the last, and biggest pain so far, the 4 bolts I need to put the 5.4 on the engine mount. I cannot seem to be able to find, and I am probably over looking it on the first Google page, the thread count and proper size of the transmission to engine bolts.

This is going to be a fun project, as this is my first mustang ever owned... Don't flame me, I'm a Honda guy. Not a ricer. I was sad to see the state of what is a nice mustang that has been neglected over a long time. I am sincerely looking forward to playing on the other side for a while, and dusting some itty bity cars!

Any input is greatly appreciated! I will try to post some pics as I go along if you all want.

I'm excited!

Welcome, glad to see your jumping all in with your first stang. No better way to get to know it than tear it down and rebuild it!

Sweet! Well right now I am having issues finding the proper bolt size for the bell housing to engine. Need 4 of them to get the 5.4 on the engine stand so I can get started. Also, what should I use to lift the motor? Chains or seatbelt, or rope?

Just got the compressor and air tools yesterday. Found the legs to the engine lift and got them into the shop garage. Took the hood off The Growler to see if I could get one of those bolts, with no luck.

I am completely ready to start this party, just need those bolts. And straps or something.

Re: New to the site! a question has brought me here.

I prefer nylon straps but have used chains... Anything strong enough will work... Don't know what size those bolts are but I'll Google around...

13mm, 1.5 pitch.

I am picking up those 4 tomorrow! Thank you. I'll look at the store for something when I'm there. I am going to paint the engine, I don't want to scratch it up.

Alright, what got done today... Not much. Got a nice chain from my girls dad. Sent my partner to find these elusive bolts, he goes to auto zone, lowes, and home depot. No one has em.

Tomorrow I will go to napa, oriellys, and advanced auto... Wish me luck.

Are you 100% sure about the bolt size? All these auto parts stores have 12mm and 16mm only.. can't hit the next place till tomorrow at best. Lol. Figures. Murphy sucks.

Re: New to the site! a question has brought me here.

I think the bolts from your (blown)4.6 main bearings could possibly work....

I've found the stock TTY main bolts to be perfect for mounting the engine to the stand by the way.

Tonight I got a Haynes manual, and 4 magical bills, 10mm in size. Tomorrow when I wake up, I am going to put the 5.4 on the stand.

If it is not too hot, I am also going to pull the accessories off the 4.6, and tag and number all the connections to prepare for the pull.... This is gonna be fun. And, I am doing the whole thing myself! Anyone in South Carolina? Lol!

I did not get 4 bills, I spent that. I did get, 4 bolts. Proofreading is my friend.
