Engine Ticking..?

I can hear a ticking sound in a certain rhythm coming from under the car. When we had it up on the lift it sounded like it was coming from the center of the engine where the tranny hooks up. From the engine bay it is very very faint and can only be heard when you pull the trottlebody to get about 1k rpm. I had my exhaust friend check the exhaust because I thought it was a leak but everything was nice and tight. When he took his stethoscope thing into the engine bay and put it down between the intake manifold and valve cover he said he could hear a ticking. But we don't know what it is.

Any ideas?

No oil or any liquids of any sort leaking at all. And I have known for a while that the Pilot bearing and TOB have been on the fritz... Ya'll think it's that?

It definitly could be one of the too. If the tob is seezing up could be it, is it sticky in any gear or decently hard to shift. I had to put a tob in my car because it seezed. Theyre was a knocking in my trans before hand too.

No. The gears are really easy and the clutch is not troubled at all. It bites like new. Hm. I'll check out the manifold bolts! Can you see it without taking the plenum and throttle body off?

Take your intake off and you should be able to see

This one is the one I would think that would cause a knocking out of the four but that wouldn't be in your trans area

It also wouldn't be felt in your clutch, it would be in the shifter. It would be extra tight to be put in gear.

Re: Engine Ticking..?

Ok. it went away today so I went out normal driving.. On my way home from work I was accelerating normally and was about 45mph when klang(sounded like metal breaking/hitting)! Then it sounded like a blown header while I was driving. I limped my way back to my apartment(only a half mile drive from where it blew) and popped the hood. It was really loud and sounded like it was gushing air from the area around the throttle body/plenum. I looked for any visible damage and saw nothing. I took the CAI and throttle body off and still saw nothing out of the ordinary... The headers and exhaust are perfectly fine and tight. The clutch and the tranny still grip and shift fine although it has weird sounds coming from the tranny if you get under it and put your ear close to it while idling. Any ideas?

Oh, and there are still no liquids leaking.

---------- Post added at 08:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:44 PM ----------

Actually.. I didn't check the headers themselves... That would make a lot of sense..

If you are hearing it from the tranny I've heard of the torque converter doing what you are describing but I'm not for sure

Attach everything and put your head next to the egr valve and see if they'res noise. Milk the butterfly while you do it. You'll hear either nothing or a clank/hiss.

Its tjr circular knob looking thing on right side of pic. On the back side of it there are two tibes on flows in one flows out. Make sure bother are pushed all the way up. And look for and melting of the plug in that has a connection that goes ibto it. If there is any exposer of each individual wire that is connected to the connection if the sensor.

Go to your local part store and get a egr valve i forgot how much it is not to much tho. If you saw my picture there is a black looking knib. On the back side of it youll see a rectangular shaped black box with two vaccum lines. Thats the egr valve. Unplugg the connection along eith take off the vaccum lines. They are two differnt sizes so its hard to mix them up. It should be located next to the throttle body plenum

Ok. I just took that piece off and checked it... It's all great. And the lines were all securely attached and they all look new. And the air noise is actually coming from the passenger side, it seems.
