Most Popular Brake Pads

Looking to replace my front and rear brake pads next month. Whatever pads I have on my car right now are horrible with brake dust. What are your experiences with different brands and/or types of brake pads when it comes to brake dust?

I used the ceramic pads offered by firestone. Whatever company they use has very low dust pads. I haven't cleaned my polished aluminum wheels for over 2 weeks and they look great, and the ceramic brake dust wipes right off.

Re: Most Popular Brake Pads

Been using Hawk HPS for a while on the cobra. Not the best at dust...but a definite improvement in stopping ability.

More concerned for daily driving. I don't take it to the track or anything like that. Just want to keep the wheels clean. Anyone that has seen my rims knows how terrible my current pads can be at dust.

Re: Most Popular Brake Pads

I would look into ceramic pads as stated above they have good stopping ability and minimum amount of dust. If you are concerned about better grip literally go with the next brake pad grade below ceramic pads. Most likely it will state more brake dust better stopping ability. Just as an added reminded recommend you get your rotors turned down when you do get your pads so flat smooth pads on flat smooth rotors will minimize on squeeking and uneven brake wear

Was just going to replace rotors as well. At least fronts. They are dirt cheap.

Re: Most Popular Brake Pads

yeah I really do agree with that I am upgrading my rotors with only 15,000 miles on the car without the full up around brakes lol what are the sizes of your front discs?

All I would have to say would be wothless to ya. All I run are race pads on both cars, lol! I know that as far as low dust I'm pretty sure hawk sells a low dust pad. Hawk is all I use, even the low level pads have great bite. Ill check my wholesale account when I get a chance and see what they offer. I can always ship it to ya if ya wanted.

I'm running ebc yellow pads. They are pretty good on dust. Haven't washed in three weeks and there's not any noticeable dust.

I run hawk ceramic and they make more dust than i would have expected. They grip great but every couple weeks my rims are pretty dusty again. I brake hard but still i would expect them to be a little less dusty. Wagner thermoquiets do pretty well with dust and grip great too. I sell them like crazy at my repair shop

Re: Most Popular Brake Pads

I second the Hawk HPS, they did have SOME dust, but not as bad as OEM/other pads I've tried. Stopping power was great and they weren't noisy.

I was taught that using ceramic pads for repeated heavy stops are very hard on your rotors, as semi metallic and other pad compositions are much more effective at wicking heat away from the rotor, where the ceramic pads run cooler and leave the heat dissipation up to the rotor (same amount of heat, as friction when stopping creates heat, just the rotor takes the brunt of it)

For noise and dust issues a lot of people go ceramic (after complaining of random screeching/squeaks to their shops..) but a lot of those people also drive conservatively - which doesn't put too much stress on the rotors, most mustang owners do not.. Also I've heard that ceramic type pads are not recommended for medium to heavy duty applications, such as on trucks
