Which engine do i have ?

Bought a 1996 Mustang GT last fall from a friend. He told me that the engine was out of a 2003 police crown vic. It is a 4.6 liter ford engine, but i cant seem to discern which 4.6 liter engine i have. How can i tell ? It does have 2 distributors with msd ignition. Any ideas ?

Thanks

Re: Which engine do i have ?

Not entirely sure on 03 but the 04 was rated at 250 HP..

Best way to tell if you have the 'PI' motor, examine the valley as best you can (beyween cyl heads/behind alternator) at the top of the block UNDER the intake, if you can see it clearly and there is a TON of room, you have a non pi intake. if the intake is REALLY deep and almost touches the top of the block then its a pi intake. Also the intake opening will go towards the drivers side of the car, not passenger

If they did use a crown vic engine but not the intake manifold, the non-pi intake will be choking your motor..

If you have the PI intake, chances are you have the heads, as well - I can't remember if they're marked or not, but you can pull the intake.. If the heads have an oval shape to them they are non-PI and not from a 2003 crown vic

Before going into any more detail.. Have you looked at the intake manifold yet? Is there a gap below it or does it mostly fill the valley?

Here is what the intakes look like from the top. The one on the left is the non pi and on the right is the pi intake.
