When the pump is run dry not only does it suck stuff up but also creates a lot of hest since there is no fuel around it to cool it. After this happens with an older pump it causes this many times. Be prepared to replace the pump soon as well as the fuel filter

Would this make a sputter kinda like an exhaust leak sound? And also would it causes shaking at idle and shaking on acceleration until you get at cruising speed? I think this happened to me because I ran it really low on gas on a trip because I had no where to stop and it's never been the same. I feel like I've lost on HP too. And I think I hear a very very slight knock.
