O/D light blinking

Took my stang out for a drive tonight, I drove it pretty mildly and the overdrive off light came on and kept blinking. Over the past week I have noticed that the transmission has been hitting a bit hard on shifts especially when I let off and cruise. It's an automatic by the way. I was wondering what may be the cause for this light to come on and blink. Any suggestions?? Also I'm new to the forum just saying

Can't remember specifically, but it's one of the sensors or a solenoid on the tranny. You need to get it checked out as soon as possible as it could cause a severe malfunction in the near future.

If you get it taken care of now you should be able to avoid replacing the tranny. Had three fords do it and i just ignored them, and ended up needing three new transmissions shortly after.

Checked tranny fluid and found that fluid was severely low, put more in and it went away so I think I fixed the problem, thanks everyone for the inputs
