Best way to spend money?

I have a 1999 mustang gt 5 speed. That being said it's completely stock and I'm wanting to get the max power gain. I have roughly 5000 to spend and I'm doing all the labor myself. Any ideas on parts that work well with each other?

If I had 5k to put in my car I would supercharge or turbo it.

$2000 for a kit? That's pretty good.

Buy it. Add headers back exhaust, gears, even some cams you will have one bad *** 99 stang. If enough left buy a clutch as well. Then next drive shaft and suspension.

Supercharger would be nice but buy all forged internals (pistons 8/1comp dished, crank etc etc) ull need injectors throttle body a chip or tuner. Cam with a bit of over lap for when u put a higher boost pully on it (will help from getting blower detanation but will run a bit rich... Thats were a good dyno tune or chip tune comes in) other then that beef up ur heads with some race springs and a port and polish and ull have one fast a$$ ride!

Just go Naturally aspirated lot cheaper and you don't have to worry about superchargers blowing up stuff. If you get the right stuff done to it N/A you could hit mid 12s my 01 was doing 12.818's in the 1/4 mile. Remember your car aint worth a darn if you don't have a good suspension to keep it hugging the track. Think about building the rear end too. Just a thought

NA wont make as much power. If you want to push more than 450 hp or so you will need a built block though.... Trust me lol i just found out

Re: Best way to spend money?

I totally lucked out my wife totaled my mustang(wrapped it round a lamp post in the rain) one month after I bought it my insurance company gave me enough money to pay it off and fix it so now I'm taking the car payment money and putting it into upgrades the only downside is my car is now a salvage title

500 is the breaking point. Just blew my block in peices with that much power. If you want more than 450 you need forged internals

Re: Best way to spend money?

If all you want is power. then yank the engine out. Forge the bottom end, toss in a new set of cams, and get a cheaper used blower kit. If you want a really reliable boosted car, get a proper new intercooled blower. Personally, I would do a full set of adjustable coilover suspension, build the rear end, do a full intake system (filter to plenum), full exhaust, tune, short throw shifter, and a total tune up for the car. The lakewood Rear control arms really change the car a lot.
