Lightbulb Muffler Delete

Ok I just had a light bulb moment. Instead of buying cat backs why not just take off the stock mufflers and put a pype there. I would put a Box thing around the pype to make it look like a muffler Any thoughts?

Also would I need a tune for the car if I do this?

Just by doing that you won't need a tune. Usually don't by changing mufflers, as long as the rest is stock. But if you cut it out you can just buy the muffler. Also, by changing the Catback, you'll be increasing the pipe diameter from 2.25" to 2.5", yielding in more horsepower.

Re: Muffler Delete

Why? Look it up on YouTube, they sound fine to me. Also the stock CATs quiet it down still. All I would be changing is taking the stok mufflers off and putting a straight pype there. All the rest of the pypes would be stock.

Re: Muffler Delete

I still think they sound like an old school cherry bombed Chevy from the 60's. Sloppy as hell, and no distinct tuned sound.

To each his own, I guess? It's an age thing.

Just buy an SLP Loudmouth Catback then. You'll be a bit quieter but it will have more tone and not as "sloppy."

The SLP Loudmouths are extremely loud. I know people who have them and are extremely happy with them, they say that it does drone a bit on the highway, but when you stomp it off a stop light it roars and gets heads turning.

+1. As long as you have a catted midpipe it won't be too loud. Actually it'll sound perfect without being a ****** lol

I would put on a H pipe(makes a deeper sound) with hi-flow SLP cats, should make it sound really clean with no popping when you slow down or speed up.

If anything but a used off road h-pipe and weld the cats in place where they should be. It would be perfect.

Ya I'd just leave it. Save up for some new pipes and mufflers, with a whole new exhaust system, H-pipe, and hi-flow cats, you could gain 5-10 Horsepower plus a B.A. Sound. All of that would cost 500-700 though.

Working on cars is the best times, what I did was custom paint my grills and side louvers, I have a black stang and now I have a sick looking red accent on it.

Look for used parts to save money. Usually just as good as brand new, besides the obvious use.

Yeah. It just has no tone and sounds way too trashy for that motor.
