Stage 2 cam?

Okay so I have a 1998 mustang gt and I want to put a cam, and lifters in it. What should I get that won't be to expensive but I can still hear it good. And should I get bigger injectors then and a turbo? For more air and fuel?

U don't have to change out springs, followers, just cams unless u plan on adding. s/c or turbo. Just dug out my receipt from summitt I replaced everything since I was in there and its not easy on the f150 but $825 for cams springs locks followers seals

You will have to change your springs if you go with a stage 2 cam or else you'll damage your whole assembly by not allowing enough lift out of the springs. It gonna be a chunk of change regardless cause you'll NEED to get it tuned. Even with a stage 1 cam it needs tuned for the performance your putting the cams in for. And with stage 2 cams alot of the time you have to check clearances cause all the lift. The sohc motor does have lifters. They aren't the same as traditional lifters but that's what their called. Hydraulic lifter that your cam followers sit on, and they will need replaced to avoid a diesel sound.

what he said...

cams are not something you look for the cheap route on. Expect close to a couple grand when all is said and done

500 cams
100 springs
500 tune
**** ton for labor

I'm about a grand in and tomorrow I'll be gettin it tuned for about 500. That's with me doing all the work. And from what I've heard you also don't gain much power for what you pay. I myself have noticed a massive increase UNTUNED alone. Before I could scratch the tires going into second. Now untuned it losses it, and I have 315 nitto 555r drags. It adds a mean mean mean lope but you gotta look at the price you pay vs what you get out of it and what else you can do for that price and gain more power

Get some bullet racing stage 2 cams from modular head shop, u don't need to change the springs unless ur boosting And they sound nasty at idle. Type in skaterboy4868 on YouTube and I got a couple videos of my gt with the cams so u can hear them. And yes ur gonna need a tune , Get an sct flash tuner and bring it to a mustang dyno. Ull pick up some decent power

And to add to this. DEGREE YOUR CAMS. I spend 400 dollars for the guy at the dyno to tell me that they weren't degreed properly and my motor was all over the place. Lol I don't know how I didn't degree them when It ran

Comp stage 2 xe270 makes a great cam low range gains but lots of mod to top end gains nice lope. Change springs if you want to but if you don't they need to be degreed perfectly for ptv clearance very nice lope at idle and with bolt ons will get you over 300 rwhp na which is the magic number people shoot for na with the 96-04 mustangs. Also hear good things about trick flow with trick flow twisted wedge heads you will put down 350 with that
combo best heads for the 96-04 2v

Labor will be cheap for me though. I own a body shop with a mechanic in it so he can do it for me and I have a speed shop down the street to tune it
