281 to 347 swap

What would be a better engine to get in to. I have a 1996 mustang gt and I want to get at least 400 hp r better. Here's the problem I don't know what I will have to change r even how much it will cost to do the swap. If its cheaper to just beef up the 281 I will. But a 347 sound a hole lot better. Some one told me the 347 will drop right in because of the year but others say it want. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It'd cost about the same to do the 347 swap vs building the 4.6 to 400 hp

That's what I was thinking. Do u know what all I would have to change. I'm thinking k members mounter mounts but what else. I also kinda want to keep the fuel injections so what kind of heads off that. Don't want to spend more than 2000 on heads for sure. So of I had to do carb I would

Re: 281 to 347 swap

dont forget if you change over to the 5.0 engine ,you'll need an engine harness and ECM etc .............. and the agg of wiring in the harness as it wont just be a plug and play

Ah... Didn't think of that. So cheaper and easier to go with a carb and manual gauges?

Why don't you just build the stock 4.6? A trick flow top end kit will run you about 3k and that should get you close to 400bhp. Just do other smaller mods and a dyno tune to get closer to 400whp

I'll look into that. Is there a stroker kit for a 281. Maybe like to a 301 r something around that and put that top end kit on it.
