O/R x pipe question

Sorry I am new to the mustang world, but when people are running the o r x pipe does this mean they r running without cats? I have seen o r x pipes and catted x pipes...if u r running w/o cats how does this pass inspection

Hey man, good question. Welcome btw, that's what we're here for. When people say they are running an o/r x or h pipe, (yes) it means no cats... Nope it wont pass smog. People play the game...

---------- Post added at 12:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:44 AM ----------

They eithrr smog it every 2 yrs with the original mid pipe with cats and headers or they clean pipe it. Me and my friends have a lot o problems here in california with that.

Re: O/R x pipe question

I think it depends on your state for whether you will pass emissions. Here in Maryland you can pass with out cats, as long as it isnt sending a code out

It depends on the state, in Maryland for inspection all they do is plug a computor up to your dash...so if there is an error code they will know what it is. If u get a tune to cancel the code it wont show.

However if you get pulled over and ur car is loud as f*** because you dont hav cats, then the officer can get a repair order for you to get them put back on.

These are just for Maryland tho, idk about other states, Im sure cali has more strick emmisions tests

But I'm sure if they found out I'd have to put cats on

+1 Here in LA if you don't have a code showing then they don't put the car on the rack to check. I've got away with it for a while now... Or you just find that one inspection place that doesn't care.

Here's a video of my '02 GT with just an o/r X-pipe from Bassani and stock mufflers.

That will sound really crappy. Trust me i know. Your loud enough with those headers and lms. If you wanna swap your mid pipe id say change Your mufflers too.

To not get the dummy light use MIL eliminators. California smog is brutal. If you get caught without cats they will just give you a fix it ticket or make you see a smog ref which is hell. At that point every after market peice on the damn thing needs to have a carb number or your screwed

Also i've hear of people getting their cars crushed over here for street racing illegal mod cars... Don't know if it's true.

shorties you may get a little sound , but pretty much worthless on gained power. long tubes you will have alot better sound and performance.

There not worthless.especially if u get equal length.they are also cheaper and a little simpler to install.
I do agree longtubes are better but the gains on a stock motor are not that much different.you really see the difference on more highly modified vehicles.
