400 dollar mod

Its a 2000 GT, current mods are cai headers full exhaust. Its a 5 speed car, my 2 main choices are doing 4.10s or a tuner like SCT I just received my Christmas bonus and now have 400 free dollars! What would be the best mod here!

Re: 400 dollar mod

tuner and a short throw shifter...$400 should cover it if you find christams sales...tuner now means that if and when you add a mod you can change things on the fly...

See I like the idea of gears and a short throw right now, but I really like a tuner so I can properly tune it first and get better Mpg. But no one seems to be having a sale on them

Even tho you have a stock plenum you can still get anywhere from 20 to 30 hp

no way. I got a 70mm TB/Plenum combo and saw 7hp... FAR from 20-30. and i actually lost some low end torque.

From everything listed here, go with the gears!! and if you can do the install yourself take that extra money and get the tuner. you will own a whole new ride

It's a 80 mm not a 70. The under drive pulley and tb combo will get you anywhere from 20 to 30 hp for sure

80mm will be even worse on a NA motor. It's not only about volume but it's about velocity too. They don't even recommend 75mm for NA let alone 80

Actually 75mm tb and bigger will net you the same gains as a 70mm tb on a NA motor!... The only time anything bigger than 70mm getting you more gains is with forced induction!..

Back to the thread!... If all I had was $400 I would get the tuner first!.. That way you can retune your car with all other future mods!..

Re: 400 dollar mod

Oh My Heavenly Spirit ... :facepalm

OP. Tuner will be your best option, someone w/ free tunes for life so that when you do get gears, you can order a new tune for them for free.

Gears need to be purchased with an install kit and new bearings, new fluid, etc etc. And 300 for labor is what I hear the most. Unless your doing it yourself, if so by all means save your money.

I think you'd be happiest with that for now.

So you can tell what 20hp feels like. Because the quoted statement indicates no dyno proof. You can't judge the hp gains by what the website says. Most manufacturers over rate their products.

True!.. But on the same note!.. If your car just jumped up 20hp then your still gonna feel a difference!.. Granted most companies do over state their products!..

Re: 400 dollar mod

People put ebay cai's on v6 mustangs and "think" they jumped 20 hp...

Lots of mis-calibrated butt dyno's in here.
