What next: COP or SCT

Ok my car has what sounds to be a misfire but does not have any code, it only pops at idle and it really started after my CAI. So should I buy COPs or try an Bama tuner?

I also just replaced the EGR, I have cleand both the MAF and IAC.
I put the original intake on for a week and the pop was less but still there.

Sets air fuel ratio better and you can read codes if any pop up. Datalog to see what the number are and what the engine is doing

Re: What next: COP or SCT

The pop is only at idle, and when in gear. It goes away above 1000 rpm. It is a quiet pop and the engine its self twitches when it pops.

Do you have a off road xpipe. If so that can cause the sound you speak of, which is normal.

I run AM's CAI with no tune (yet) and it lopes a bit at idle, but no popping, just so you know. I didnt get the loping before the CAI. I had a K&N cone instead of the factory box before.

Yes it does, somethimes it goes to around 400rpms then goes back up, when I replaced the egr it helped a little but it still does it every once and a while.

My 4.6 didn't need a retune with just a cai. Ran great w/o return for 50k before I sold it! Lot actually don't need retune.

If you think the COP's are bad unplug each one individually. If engine runs rougher that COP is fine. If engine doesn't run rougher the COP is bad!

Yes u are right some don't,but some do.if it started happening after the install there is a good chance that it or something related to the install is the problem.

Well thats what I thought, but after I put the CAI on I took it off and put the original on. It still did it just less noticable.

I have seen may cai installed on MANY different vehicles w/o an issue, but the issue I have seen is too much oil from the cai getting on the maf causing rough running issues.

I just put a tune on mine, and that stopped the rough idle so far.

Just thought of this. Check the intake pipe after the maf to see if there any holes that are open. I had a similar issue with that a while back because the intake had a hole for a intake temp sensor, but the car doesn't have one separate of the maf (mine didn't anyway.) it was pulling in air after the maf which drove the ecu nuts. check that and your vacuum hose connections also.

Re: What next: COP or SCT

Xpipe wouldn't make the engine twitch though, the only thing I can think of besides plugs or vacuum is TPS or MAF. While the engine is at idle, pop the hood and tap on the mass air flow sensor, if the engine stutters, it's usually a problem with the MAF, you can get a reman MAF for about $70 or a new one for 280

True, the engine doesnt twitch, It just has a pop in the exhaust note once and awhile.

Re: What next: COP or SCT

Well I opened the hood and looked and the engine is running smoother than I thought, I tried to tap the MAF and nothing, could not having the right PCV tube also cause this? (passenger side to the TB tube) Heres the right one,
2001-04 Mustang 4.6L 2V GT Pcv Valve To Upper Intake Hose by Ford at LRS - Same Day Shipping!
Which I will be buying anyway.

Im getting a tuner first, if that doesnt work I will have a good tune and somthing to watch how the car is running so there is no down side to getting one.
