with just a muffler delete most likely no power gain but you may have a 1-2 hp gain

How much of a gain do you get with just aftermarket mufflers?

Neglegable. Its the pipes that you see gains from.

Re: loud pipes

For cat backs the gain you get is from taking the stock tubing from 2.25inch to 2.5inch plus the stock tubes on mine were beat in, in some places making the air flow even less, I bought the kit from summit racing which is tubes and cheap mufflers, no tips and if I buy tips it would still be 100 less than mac catbacks.

When I got a new cat back, I picked up a little bottom end power. It's not very significant but you can feel it.

What is gonna classify a exhaust system being to noisy or to noisy in the cabin is a judgement call that can only be made by you... me personally if you were to just remove you stock mufflers i wouldn't think it would be to loud but idk how well it will sound... if you want a better sound the Pypes M80s are like $40 a piece. Thats what i have on my 04 GT and i love them!

And like a few others have said muffler swaps alone wont yield any power gains... i would do some youtube research and see what kinda mufflers that you think sound good and go with what suits your taste! Good luck and save up for a new mid pipe... or have a shop remove your rear cats.. that will make your car louder and throatier

Depends on how long they are.. i have heard some ppl say that it can change the tone a little but nothing drastic... i changed my mufflers and tips at the same time so idk if it changed the tone on my car

Yes, when I got my car it had flowmaster 44's with 3" tips. My cousin had same car year, same model, same mods, with 44's 2 1/2" tips and my car sounded deeper and louder than his. Now I have SLP LM1 with 3 1/2" tips. It makes a difference.
