How many quarts of gear oil? And what's the best kind of oil to put in it if I drive it hard?

Royal purple full synthetic ATF. Itl take a little more than 3 quarts. The way to fill it is to leave the top plug open untill it overflows out the plug.
If your doing a shifter fill it that way.

When I did my clutch I drained my trans oil there was about 5 quarts in there, I read 3.5 and put that in but now my shifts are rough, can it be from there not being enough oil? Or from not having the right kind of oil? Also today my tranny was making a funny noise in 5th gear

T-45 Trannys only hold about 3.3 quarts of ATF. What fluid came out of it?

Overfilling the tranny can damage it as well

Hmmmm. I've heard of some variation before butit sounds overfilled. All your suppose to do is fill it till it flows out of the top fill plug. Pretty easy to do. Id drain it again. Take the shifter off and fill it that way untill its full properly.
