2004 GT Engine swap tp a 2012 5.0

I'M thinking about getting a 2004 GT and swapping. The engine out to a 2012 5.0!!!
I was wondering how much trouble would it be!! Or should I just use the money to use on the original 4.6.
Amy help would be great!!!! Thanks

I've heard of alot if people having issues with this swap. But I obviously haven't done it myself. Sure it's cool and different, but for the price I'd rather drop a 4V 5.4 from a lightning in it. I thought about doing that myself, but financially I can't afford it right now.

Thanks!! I know it would be a job with wire harness!! Just dont know if it would be worth it, or just work on the 4.6!!!!

I could drop a super charger and tune!! But I love the power of the new 5.0!!!

I agree it's an amazing engine. But unless your taking to some place to have them install it, it seems like a big head ache to me. I'm not saying don't do it, but for the gains I'd build the engine you have, or swap a more user friendly engine for the SN95. either way you go, it would be a sweet car

They sell a kit just for that swap, for the kit looking at around $500 plus. The engine itself is about 7 g's then the transmission. I want to do the same but little to much for me.

YouTube has some videos of the new 5.0 already swapped in. My fab is the foxbody with the new 5.0 but I agree, to me it's more trouble than it's worth. Just build up the 4.6 or swap in a cobra engine or like above 5.4 lightning!

I think it's worth the trouble, what's more reliable? A stock 5.0 with 412hp or a 4.6 2v struggling to make that much? And then you can do little mods like tune, intake and gears and a blown 4.6 2v can't keep up

Re: 2004 GT Engine swap tp a 2012 5.0

I would just buy a vortech for 3500 and it will get a stock 2v up to 350wrhp, that would be about the same a 5.0 would put to the ground, and 350wrhp is low for the supercharger, build up the 2v and you could make over 400wrhp easly if you put more psi to it.

Then put 100,000 miles on it

I would build the 4.6l. Just get some trickflow heads and your gona see 330 hp at the wheels, almost as much as the new 5.0 puts to the ground, and all you've done is the heads. Then bolt on a supercharger and see very high dyno numbers. Then get gears and all the basic boltons after your done. At the end of it, your gona have a badass 4.6l that can stay with almost any stang on the road. And you'll only be in it about 8k. Best bang for the buck.

I've been told swap is 15-25k. Depending on how much work you do yourself

In all honesty the amount it would cost to do the swap and all, you are better off either finding a 3v 4.6 or a 4.6 out of a cobra or just taking that 2v and building it up as much as you can, inside and out. Cams, crank, pistons, valves all of it and then supercharge it. And you would for sure pass the power of the 5.0 I love the 5.0 but the amount of money it would cost in everything to do the cost would probably be 25k and up. When you can get more than the power of it with around 5k but it's all on you in the end.

Thank you !! I think that sounds like the best route to go!! If it's 25k or more to do the swap, hell I might as well buy a 2012 GT!! But fix the 2004 GT with a engine build, that way I can do to it that I want!!!
Sounds like a plan!!!'. Thanks!!!

25k for a complete swap??? You can get the motor from jegs brand new for less then 8k and I assume your doing the work yourself and if not then I assume your rich and who cares how much it cost

Yes the motor is 8k...all the stuff to make it fit is extra. Even if you do it yourself, if you don't custom cut and weld the headers you have to buy the aftermarket and a k member which is a total of like 4k...then all the other retrofit stuff...I've already looked into it...

A buddy of mine has a '98 GT with a built 2v in it!.. 10Gs and he is putting 620+ HP out at the wheels!... I agree that for the money you would be better off building up a 2v or swapping in another 4.6 in!..

Oh damn. I think he has more than enough power at the wheels, haha. But the just proves my point, building the 4.6 Is just the smarter and cheaper thing to do

Ya but personally if I had the cash I would do the 5.0 swap!.. But I'll just stick to building what I got too!... Just because cash is tight and it's cheaper!..

If I had the money I would build up a 351 Cleveland and put in my car but that's just me.
