What would you do?

Just curious about people's opinions here.. I have an 02 GT and have spent a lot on it.. It's got 95,000 miles on it. I just put new wheels and tires on it and a new suspension I also have an aftermarket exhaust, and intake.. I'm trying to decide if I want to keep it for a long time and keep working on it and upgrading it, with headers, throttle body, cams, tuner, prob a new hood etc. Or if I want to sell it in a couple of years and get an 05-09 GT.. I love my 02 and would like to keep it but I have considered an s197 before.. Are they really any better than sn95 new edges? just want to hear some pros and cons that I might not have thought of. So what would you do? Here she is....

From personal experience I don't think they are that much better, not enough to justify how much they cost. My '00 with 3.55s a tune and a short throw keeps up with my buddies '05 GT with unknown mods. However that might be because I'm a better driver. Personally I like how the new edges look more than the S197s, especially yours. One thought I had is that if you're just trying to get a little more power then why not buy a Cobra? 96-01s all put out roughly the same power as an 05-09 GT.

I say keep your 02'. The newer cars may have more power, but most of it it offset by the extra weight. The main thing that I like about the new cars is the extra room in the interior, but the extra room comes with extra weight. I think your car looks great and would continue working on it.

I have fun nodding cars and personally like the new edges over 05-09. The 197s look fat to me idk. I would personally keep that beautiful gt of yours. It's very nice looking and you could make one helluva car

Ha well honestly I never race so I don't really want a supercharged cobra it would just kind of be pointless for me.. Plus cobras look alike.. And I'm one that likes to have an original car that is different where it's hard to find one just like it..i like the new edges a lot too especially the sound of the 2v. Thanks for the compliment btw

Re: What would you do?

I love the new edge's because they are so off the wall different from the design. I would have LOVE to have seen what the 05-09s would have looked like had they kept on the same pace they were going with our model years. Stupid cars going back to retro lol.

The only way I am owning an 05-09 is when I build a Cervini with the girl. Thats about it. I find that the only style I am madly in love with when it comes to something non-new edge.

Thanks man, they're covers on the headlights. Smoked the taillights though cause I like the 3 staggered taillight pieces.. And the taillight covers are just one piece.. They're H&R Super Sports

Welcome.

Haha those Cobras aren't supercharged only the 03-04s are. What would be your main reason for getting an S197? I love how the interiors look in those.

O I see now.. I thought u were talking about 03-04 cobras.. Anyway my reason for getting an S197 would just be... Idk anymore honestly I kind of like the look of them but honestly I think I realize now that I like the look of the new edges even more haha

Haha sounds like we solved your problem. I wouldn't mind owning an S197 at all. Having the better technology and everything is definitely a nice perk. But I just can't quite get past the squareness of them.

I love the 06 and 07! Always wanted one. Been wanting to sell my 01gt and get an 06/07, but I just rather spend the money on my 73

Re: What would you do?

Hello, I'm new on here and really love the look of your ride. I too am wanting to lower my 01 GT but can't seem to figure out how to get it right on the tire. I realize rolling the fenders will help. I'd like it to look more like this. Car on the left. I don't think the standard Eibach lowering kits will take it this low will it?

Yes, I can see how it's not the look for everyone but I just want to know what it takes to get there. I know that car in the pic has adjustable coilovers, 20" wheels and the fenders are rolled.

Re: What would you do?

I'd keep your car...I was in the same spot for a while and decided this was my first car, I have a lot of labor, time and money in it and it's unique...it's mine

Why get rid of it after all we've been thru lol...

Wait until yours is paid off (if it's not already) then pick up a S197 GT...then you have the best of both worlds

They can be had for fairly cheap these days and our cars aren't worth a whole lot so imo it's worth keeping.

Yes I think so. I am in the middle of putting a massive audio system in the car which will weigh quite a bit (hundreds of pounds) and I want to see how that affects the stance and handling. I know, I'm nuts!

I have a 01 4.6 L. I blew my tranny and I want to know if I should buy a 5.0 with trans for 2k. Or just replace my tranny for 1600. Is it worth the labor?

Your 4.6 is better than the older 5.0's...so rebuild the tranny
