Have been working on my 04 f150 5.4 it has had a miss replaced coils plugs etc. now it seems to have a loss of power, unhooked one hole bank never set off an engine light. Disconnected tps again no engine light. Miss is gone but lose of power. My only guess is the computer needs reflashed. Help!

Re: Need help

Damn, those engines can be tricky.

I wonder if the plug gap is set correctly...should be .052-.056".

No codes, I do not have a clue. You can disconnect any thing and it will not set a code off

Re: Need help

Oh that's right, the 5.4 and 6.8 3v's can't be adjusted, my bad.

I would try the F150 forum...someone over there might have had the same issue and can help out more.

How's your intake gaskets? Had a buddy with a 03 5.4 f250 that had the miss and ran doggy. He ended up replacing the intake gaskets(it def helped), injector o rings, then plugs, and coil packs that finally fixed it.

Re: Need help

Yah those 5.4's in the 04/05 F150's had a ton of problems - cam phasers, bearings, injectors, 1 piece spark plugs, the list goes on...supposedly they solved most of them by 07, which is what I have but we'll see..I've only got 36k on her so it's too early to say. I do have the infamous tick but that's normal with that engine. I'm not spending a dime to get rid of it either lol.

Wish you both all the luck in the world, it's my fault for buying first model year. They didn't fix the plug issue till 08. So don't wait 100000 miles before changing. Only good for about 30 to 36000

Re: Need help

Thanks, I honestly don't plan on keeping it much past 50k but I'll probably do the plug change shortly before the 5yr 60k warranty is up in august.

I bought mine as a bank repo for 500 ! Put a new top wheels 315 rear tires hood , off road pipe, fuel pump. No one thought it would run. Fuel pump was the trick. I have a 85 t top and a 90 conv also . Both are in pieces at the moment, but getting close to complete

---------- Post added at 08:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:01 PM ----------

Lowered it also , but then raised the back. Had bottoming out issues

Re: Need help

Wow, nice..love how something simple is all it takes, for ~1k you got a nice looking GT...I'm hoping to get a Deep Impact Blue (new sonic blue) GT in 2013 or 2014, and then an old fox or 67-68 to restore...that's the plan anyways.

The 03 won't be going anywhere...that biatch is staying right here

Re: Need help

That'll be a nice first car...my local ford dealership gave away a 68 cougar a few years ago for some promo...I came close, was in the top 10 and won a damn autographed football instead, dammit.

The car was a mess though, even had a hole in the passenger's floor pan, but I still would've taken it.

Most of the motor was there. The only thing that didn't need fixed was the cowl and its always the first to rust
