loud drive train

I have an 04 mach1 5 speed with 28k miles. I've noticed an increasing drive train noise after 45 mph. its a loud whine increasing to a roar. also once the drive train is warm when idling in neutral I can hear what sounds like pieces rattling around in the transmission until I push the shifter against a gear to engage the synchro. Any ideas would be helpful.

Maybe your pilot bearing, or throwout bearing. Other than the noises does it seem to shift fine? If you can get the car jacked up high enough or maybe on a lift and have the rear wheels off the ground have someone in the car running and press the clutch in while u look at the throwout bearing. U can see it if u take off the shift fork cover on the driverside of the tranny. Shine a flashlight up there and see if the throwout bearing is sliding properly or if its wobbling or just thrashing back and forth. The throwout should only move with the shift fork.

The clutch effort seems to vary, sometimes its heavy sometimes less. Also shifting can be hard sometimes.

Also, just drive the car, and the noise its only prominent when accelerating or maintaining speed. Anytime you lift off the throttle the sound vanishes.
