Mach 1 hood.

I have a 2003 GT I would like to get the Mach 1 shaker hood later down the road. Wandering if I could get the one off American muscle and put on it. But get a factory Mach 1 hood instead of using the cut out system for a GT hood. I've heard you would have to do mounting work.

Re: Mach 1 hood.

the kit looks totally different then what the mach one uses factory, would probably require quite a bit of custom fabrication

Re: Mach 1 hood.

easy killer, you would probably be better off getting a 2nd gt hood to do the cut out on if your worried about it,

Re: Mach 1 hood.

the mach 1 shaker is 100% different from any aftermarket shaker. the reason why is the mach is a cowl hood with a cutout, the aftermarkets give you your original hood and a template to cut the hole out. Then you apply a piece of plastic to rais up to meet the shaker. IMO the aftermarket shaker set ups look like pure trash. it looks like when the cavaliers and the cobalts came with the fake hood scoops. IMO buy a shaker a hood from an OE Mach and dont look back.

So are you saying get a shaker from a Mach and use a gt hood or Mach hood and shaker

Re: Mach 1 hood.

I hope your ready to spend a pretty penny though... and honestly there aren't really any HP gains worth the money. Is there a reason why your going this route?

Yeah I know. But just looks so badass. But I wouldn't do it for a long time.

Re: Mach 1 hood.

It can be done...I've seen the Mach setup with the Mach hood on a v6 before, but it takes fabrication and money.

Obviously it would be easier with the v8 2v but it's still going to cost more than a simple conversion kit. The overall appearance of the shaker looks badass, but as said there's really no performance gain, it's purely cosmetic.

Re: Mach 1 hood.

I disagree with the " no-performance gain "
I own a Mach , when I first bought the car ,we had a track rental and I made several passes with out the shaker air tube hooked up . the car was always 1.5 + MPH faster in the traps with the air inlet tube connected , every pass with out was right around 103 and every pass with was between 104.5 105 MPH , the et's werent much different but the MPH WAS !!! to me that proves it does something ,albeit only at high speeds .............
