Sct w/ bama custom tune... Any thoughts?

I've been reading up on the sct x3 flash tuner from AM with the free bama tunes for life. I just want to hear from people who have used them wether or not it's worth getting. I have quite a few mods like CAI, roush axel back exhaust, bbk u/d pulleys, bbk 75mm tb, and 75 shot zex wet nitrous kit. I'm getting 3.73 gears and a catted x pipe by this summer and would appreciate some good advice. thanx to all!

Do you have to have the tuner plugged in all the time or is it a one time thing?

One time thing. A 87,89,91 tunes. Just like am. 100for lightly modded 250 for the sc tunes. Go to brooksspeed.comit. Only took him one time on mine. And i have a lil bit done to my car. Id recommend him. I got a buddy who does it through Jsm out if Mississippi. He is running mid 7's on a 1/8. Ain't been to a 1/4 yet. But again im not knocking am. There r a lot of people that tune. Do u already have a tuner?

Are you running the 75 shot without a tune? With the mods you have a tuner would be a good investment. You will need it to correct your speedometer when you put in the gears anyway. Every time you add a mod or change your car, you let BAMA know and they will email you a tune. They even sent me a tune for the different octane gas available in my area. Very easy to use.

I have some 3.73 rear end gears that aren't installed yet and I'm planning on getting a catted magma flow x pipe by this summer. I've heard that a tuner will help me recal the speedo as well as get me some extra power.

---------- Post added at 07:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:25 PM ----------

Well I greatly appreciate the info guys and ill definitely go with the tuner. And the nitrous is installed but I haven't hooked the bottle up and used it yet as I wanted to get it tuned first.

I got my tuner in yesterday and I can honestly say I'm impressed. The throttle response is outstanding and it definitely feels more powerful even in the performance tune. But the race tune definitely kicks it up a notch and the launch rev limiter function is pretty cool. Altogether I would thoroughly recommend this product and the bama tunes.

"VVRRMMMMMM whap bop bop bop bop"!! I have the rev limiter as well, I loaded the 93 Race tune just to check it out and the limiter is like a 2 step hahaha. Perfect for launches. The SCT SF3/X3 tuner is awesome! Definitely a MUST HAVE!!

I didn't have a 93 octane tune cuz I hadn't seen it available anywhere in my area... until this morning I drove by this gas station and in big bold letters " we have 93 &100 octane available".

Is it hurting anything/loosing power to be running 93 on a 91 race tune?

I wouldn't think so you just won't be able to get the full benefit without being tuned to use it

Only reason I got 93 and not 91 is because all my gas station sells is 87/93 (sams club)...I was able to leave a 4ft patch of rubber on my launch where the last time u tried to launch on hot radials I just took off....but this time I was able to spin them a little before taking off like a bat outta hell...much aster than the previous attempt.

I have a diablo preditor tuner has anyone ever compared it to the SCT tuner. Are they the same or is one better than the other?

I wouldn't say ones better than the other it's the tunes that are loaded on the tuner. If you just buy a tuner with the preload tunes vs buying from AM where bama performance will write tunes specifically for your cars current mods.. That's when it becomes better.

hey 2002 vert,
was wondering if you still saw noticeable gains in acceleration AND power with just the 87 tune(if you've used it yet)?

The 87 octane is essentially a way to get better gas mileage at stock HP/TQ. So yes there is a dramatic power increase when going from 87 to 93.

Re: Sct w/ bama custom tune... Any thoughts?

the more timing you can run the more power you can make. You really wont increase your gas mileage generally speaking but you will increase your dollar per gallon of course. The more timing the more hp/tq so thats why 93 gives you more power vs 89 etc.

If you dont increase the timing to the point where 93 is needed (to prevent detonation) then there is no point to run it. As with my car it had detonation (bad gas) so I just didnt run into the boost so it never advance the timing enough to need the extra octane.
