The difference between 4:10 and 3:73 is 0:37

Jk

It has to do with number of times the driveshaft spins versus the number of times the tires turn once. If I remember correctly its 1 revolution of the tires for every time the driveshaft spins (insert ratio number here) times

Could be wrong, please correct me if I am, but I'm pretty sure that's it

Re: whats the difference

At 65 MPH the 4.10s are roughly 100 - 300 RPMs higher. Also, you'll have a lower top end speed with the 4.10s, but you'll accellerate much faster from a stop. A lot more chance for wheel spin though.

Re: whats the difference

for a daily driver 1st gear is VERY fast with 4.10s so for a street car 3.73 are not a bad choice overall... but not a huge change vs stock either unless the stock ratio you have now is 2.73 or 3.08

A funny guy lol, yah you pretty much got it...

The final drive ratio is the number of times the driveshaft will turn 1 rotation before your wheels make 1 revolution. So with stock gearing (3.27) your driveshaft is delivering power 3.27 times before the wheels complete a full revolution on the ground. Making this ratio taller (steeper) will increase the amount of power going to the wheels per rev.

Also, don't worry, you're not asking a stupid question...no one knows this stuff from birth, so we all have had to ask or learn at one time. Besides, that's what the forum is for

I haven't heard of anyone getting kicked off due to age or for not currently owning a Mustang!.. So you need not to worry about that!.. This forum is for sharing and learning!.. As far as asking questions?.. The only "dumb question" is the one not asked!... So ask away!.. Lol. Plus there is a thread on here for teenagers and their Mustangs!.. You'll find some like minded folks there that are your age you can also chat with!..

Umm, he'd post like these weird show cars that looked like crap or just random ideas for future cars... Like really ricey/importish ideas... And just basically made it super obvious he was a little young.

You should fit in fine here. Ha, not trying to intimidate you. You probably know a lot more in depth stuff about engines than me and some other people so I can't judge you.

Ha, cool. Not a fan of that kind of body kit, but it wasn't too bad. Well, except for the color and decals.

Re: whats the difference

I faced similar decision and went with 3:73.

I can't keep my tire from spinning, and 4:10 would only make problem worse. I like the 3:73, made a huge difference from stock. Car really pulls nice.

Found this from a few years ago making my decision:
"
Rearend GearsChanging the rear differential gears in your Mustang to a lower (though numerically higher) ratio will give your car greater torque multiplication, and that will allow it to accelerate more quickly. Stock 5-L Mustangs were equipped with 2.73, 3.08, or 3.27 gears, while later '96-present models get a standard 3.27 ratio, save for the '03 Cobra that has 3.55s. In most cases 3.73 are optimum for either a 5.0 or 4.6 2-valve Mustang, unless a taller tire is used. If the latter is true (or you have a '96-01 Cobra), a 4.10 might be the best way to go. Either way, you can expect a reduction of .2 to .4 of a second in the quarter-mile after installing your new gears"

I took a picture while highway driving to show speed and rpms with 4.10s. It cruises just fine on the highway. I would say 4.10s are fine for DD IMO, you just get into 5th gear much sooner. You can get good mpg if you can keep your foot out of it (it is a little hard to do tho, being as fun as it is). I filled up yesterday and got 18 mpg which is pretty good for 4.10s.

To put it simply 4.10. Accelerate faster but make you use less gas and drive at higher Rpms while the other ones while still a performance boost might not give you *** much acceleration but better mileage. Of course 4.10 aren't better for every car it's really a personal preferance
