Do I Have To

M getting ready to swap out my clutch and all the write ups I've read say to drain the trans fluid. Is this a must?

Re: Do I Have To

if u r doing it at home on a jack... chances are u will spill most of it outa the tail anyway when u r taking it out. so its best to go ahead and drain it before u take it outa the car giving u an opportunity to change it. and a clean area to work in..lol

Re: Do I Have To

you can try using a plug that is made to slide into the end of the transmission. I bought one from harbor freight but any parts store should carry it. The one I have is bright red and it fit my t5 in my old fox better but it does fit into the end of my t45 also. You still will have to be careful though or you definitely will look like you got a blood bath, lol

I've used a zip lock bag and a few rubber bands before. Pull driveshaft out and plug the hole with whatever you can find. If it's been a while since you changed it go ahead and change it

Careful, "plug the hole with whatever you can find," I believe that means a clean rag! LOL. I recall 2 dudes doin a tranny in a lift bay next to mine doin the slip slide on tranny oil while trying to remote the shaft to the engine;9 was funny as hell. Yeah, I used a plug.
