Wierd idle shakes and engie light

So I just took my 2000 gt out of the garage to clean it up and get ready to go back on the road and the first time I started it up the cai came apart, the tightening straps where loose so I put it back into the sleeve and tightened it up nice and snug, after this happened the check engine light came on and now it's idleing Wierd anybody have this happen? Hopefully there's a quick fix

Remove the neg batt terminal for 1 minute then reattach to clear the DTC s from the computer( you could do this with a tuner or scan tool) start it back up CEL should be off and idling normal. If it comes back on you may have a vacuum problem.

Also forgot to mention if the CEL is on you can take it to your local auto zone or advanced auto parts store and they can read the codes for you.

Thanks guys I'm going into town today, I live in upstate new York and the closest store other than a gas station is 30 miles away so I'm gonna head to autozone buy some throttle body cleaner and ask them if they could hook it up like you said

Re: Wierd idle shakes and engie light

May also want to clean your MAF sensor while your at it. I doubt it is your problem but it never hurts. The MAF sensor should be the cleanest part on your whole car

When I was paying the guy behind the counter tried to convince me to get sea foam and not the throttle body cleaner, I didn't get it I'd rather go through each thing and clean it by hand like you guys said, but what do you think about sea foam? Maybe down the line like before i change the oil? Idk if i even wanna use with sea foam to be honest lol

I'm not sure about tb cleaner. But I used a light application of brake cleaner on mine. And I mean lightly you don't want the pressure to damage the MAF's fillament. Also you said you went to the auto parts store did you have them use a scanner and read what codes it's throwing?

Re: Wierd idle shakes and engie light

For the maf sensor you may want to use electronic parts cleaner, also sold at advance auto. I bet if they check you cel code it is going to be for the maf sensor if you cai came apart while it was running. When you clean the maf sensor make sure the connection is tight, your car would run like crap if it is not getting a good reading.

For your MAF sensor you really need to use MAF cleaner. It's only like 5 bucks a can and you will be sure everything is right. Many many people have screwed up their MAF trying to use tb cleaner, carb cleaner or things like that

Deadpan is best used in the vacuum line just take a line of and put it in the can about an inch and let it suck it up make sure you are out side when you do this because it does make slot of smoke but it cleans just about everything out

Do you have a tune? If you have a tuner you didnt need to remove the neg terminal. You can just clear the codes with the tuner. If you don't have a tune the factory computer is reset when you remove the neg terminal. Thereby clearing any DTC's wich removes the CEL.

Ahhh I see. Well to answer your question no you wouldn't lose your tune if the car was tuned its factory tune would have been erased to be replaced by the one the previous owner put on it.

I would check the spark plugs make sure they are gapped properly an change if necessary. How many miles on the car? Maybe some new coil on plugs? If none of the above then I would have a compression test done( last option of course). Start with the cheapest first and see what your plugs look like.

Be ultra mega careful with your spark plugs this happened to me because a plug shot itself out the top stripping the threads out with it
Aluminum heads can be a pain in the *** when it comes to the threads that hold in your spark plugs
I had to have the dealership helicoil out new threads in my cylinder #8
500$ cause my pony decided she didn't like a spark plug anymore
Was a sad day

Get a gapper from auto zone or advance 50 cents and only way to know about the coil is to have it tested or maybe swap coils with a different cylinder and see if the code moves cylinders
These are things I would try or just pay the 95$ diagnostics fee at ford

Agreed, the gap should be .052-.056 I believe. If they seem to be gapped properly, I would try to swap the coil and see if the misfire follows as was stated previously. If a faulty coil is to blame I would replace all of them. If one has failed the other 7 won't be far behind.
