How loud will it be?

Hi guys, I have a 04 with flowmaster 40's in place of the stock mufflers. I would like for it to be a lil louder, but not annoyingly loud. How much louder would it be If I cut the rear cats out? Any info will be appreciated. Thanks

Don't cut the cats out. You will be better off getting offroad pipes

Re: How loud will it be?

I have flowmaster 40s on mine with an offroad x pipe and its not very loud. I actually wish it was a little louder.

I bought an o/r h pipe (pacesetter) with the flows and it sounds good. I thought about just cutting the cats out but for the 170 bucks ... just get the h. The x is sort of raspy.. nascar sounding. And the h is deeper and more muscle sounding ..imo!

Cats hold back a lot of sound. I think what your looking for would be an off-road h pipe. Get one that will bolt right up to your exhaust manifolds. That way if you decide its not what you want you can easily bolt the cats back on or an x pipe.

I have a 04 GT and i had the exact same set up as u do... i wanted it to be louder and i decided to take the rear cats off b/c i had always heard of people saying they lost bottom end power with the off road mid pipes and i was deathly afraid of that happening. Cost me $60 to get the rear cats removed and it sounded way better than b4.... but it wasnt obnoxious by any means... it gave it a good throaty sound and some decent volume. I have since put on a UPR off raod X pipe with straight thru mufflers and it's pretty loud so if u want to try taking out ur rear cats to see if it suits ur taste id say its worth the $60 bucks... if u buy a off road mid pipe and think its to loud then u have a $170 pipe that u dont like

My 04 GT has Flow40s and an offroad H-pipe and it sounds great. Maybe a little loud for say, 2am in the neighborhood, but thats only because I like my neighbors.
