Bout to buy a 96 gt.... Good Deal?

Found a 96 gt n almost perfect condition. Has a small nick on a side skirt and cruise don't work but he claims its only the switch, is the only faults. Its a 96 bone stock, 110,000miles, mach460, power everything except seats, premium wheels, cd player, everything is perfect except those 2 faults i said earlier for $3800. Im looking for a decent work car to drive back and forth. Im driving a 86 gmc fullsize truck right now. Its n great condition only 78000miles on it but it gets about 12mpg lol. So i wanna put it up and keep it up and find a decent work car cause Im selling my house and moving farther away from my workplace. I live 5.2 miles away right now and where we r moving its about 15-20miles away. Think this is a good deal for the stang? No leaks, don't use oil, u can eat off the engine. An older gentleman owned it and his son has it now and is gonna sale it. Let me know what y'all think.

+1 always get a mechanic to double check it. Even if you think you're very vary savvy. 2 sets of eyes is always better than one. He may catch something you looked over.

Plus, I got mine for 3200 and it already had cobra wheels, brakes, new suspension, CAI, and 75mm TB. Granted there was no heat and it was running rich for a long time, all i needed to swap was the regulator and new heater core and i fixed it!

Sure anything is better than that 12 mpg hog you got. But having a mustang makes it so much sweeter.

Re: Bout to buy a 96 gt.... Good Deal?

Yah you'll get that sometimes...some people's idea of "immaculate" is much different than yours lol.

Reminds me of when my buddy was looking for a mustang...he found one on craigslist - 02 GT, claimed to be in great condition, 79k miles, "looks like it's fresh off the factory floor" was in the description.

He goes and looks at it and it actually had 179k miles, dings and imperfections all over, and the icing...no passenger seat! Missing the entire seat...never did find out why lol.

Sound great!
Pop the hood.
Check the frame behind each headlight; looking for bodyshop work. In This area you can't hide front and side collision damage because it's part of the frame. You'll know it when you see it.
Check hydro boost for excessive leakage (wet with per steering fluid). It runs the brakes and power steering. These systems are not available new, but tightening connectors usually solves the problem.
Reach under the H-balancer and feel for wetness.
Start car, position self at right fender an left while having owner pull throttle lever increasing engine speed to about 2K then quickly releasing; listen for knocks and engine response. Listen to the motor not the exhaust.
Look at the harmonic balancer (aka crank shaft); watch the retaining bolt for true enter.

Ok, I'm outa air. It's a pass or fail thing so you know what you're getting into. Mustangs have a way of owning its owners you know.

Patience is a virtue. Good luck. Am cool with your decision too.
