Rear axel gear install cost?

So I've got my 3.73 gears and I'm just wondering how much the average install cost is? I got quoted about $1000 dollars at a local performance shop and I'm pretty sure that's a little high. Is anyone in Reno, Nevada that could recommend a good shop? I've tried pepboys and tires plus but they said they can't do it for me because of company policy.

Yea, don't pay $1000. That's at least 3 times too much

Re: Rear axel gear install cost?

Took me 3 hours... and I'm no pro... first time changing gears too...

Mechanic across the street from me quoted $200 if he supplied the gear oil and friction modifier...

so $1000 is waaaay off

Great thanks for all the feedback. I found a shop that specializes in drivetrain and they quoted me 400 in labor and 125 for a bearing kit.

Do the bearing kit, will be worth it to prevent failure of any other normal wear components

Re: Rear axel gear install cost?

I paid 750. They supplied frpp gears bearing kit oil and friction modifier. They told me to buy the gears from them so they could warranty them if anything went wrong. The gears started whining like crazy. They re did the whole job with new gears. They didn't charge me for the new set or labor.
