Re: 4:10 gears vs 4:30 gears

I almost bought a 2002 GT with 4.30 gears. Literally could spin the tires dropping the clutch in third. Was a pain in the *** to drive in traffic because it would launch itself in first or second... I went with 4.10s and love it. If you don't live around a place with tons of traffic, and/or you don't DD your car then 4.30s are a ton of fun! otherwise.. They can be a pain.

In addition, you will most likely eventually end up going with a higher torque-rated clutch, like stage two or three. That makes 4.30 gears about one hundred thousand times more difficult to handle in city and traffic driving. But like I said.. Recreational driving it's crazy fun.

Pros:
Accelerate like crazy
Crazy burnouts
Can even make 5th gear do a little something!

Cons:
Forget about traffic driving..
MPG will be laughable.
City-speed cruising will be difficult because the RPMs will be high at 35mph and 45 mph.
You'll go through rear tires, I promise.
Slipping into gear from a stand-still will still result in car jumping forward.

I'm sure I'm missing something... But that's pretty general.

I have 430s and don't have the issues listed above but i would still recommend 410s because my car feels like it is out of gear before it is out of power. My 84 with a stock 302, t5 and 373s felt like it had steeper gears than my 98 with 430s. Maybe once I get the Pi swap finished up it will feel like an animal or something but the way it was, I could spin a little going into second and chirp third with my ram clutch. My friend has a 98 cobra with a kenne bell and he also has 430s and I dont honestly care for them in that either. Our cars like to rev and the 430s put the damper on that.

Oh, didn't k ow it was an auto. 4.30 isn't too bad for an auto. Just really steep.
