What do you guys think?

Just got back from the local Ford dealership, I went to have the leak in my convertible top fixed. They told me it is "beyond their capabilities". I know where the leak is I just can't get to it directly without removing the top (which I don't know how to do). I have a can of flex seal laying around and was thinking I should just save the money and spray some in where I know the leak is but can't see. What do you guys think? Good idea or am I an idiot?

Beyond their capabilities?!?!?! As in it is not repairable or that they do not know how to fix it?

They probably just want to replace it. And if you have to take it off to fix it probably is cheaper at the dealer to just have them install new..

They told me that everything they looked at was fine. Basically the dealership techs didn't know how to unhook the top. The leak isn't horrible but if it rains long enough I get a decent size puddle in the well liner which in the end soaks my trunk.

That's what I said. It's a ford dealership, they should be able to take my car down to the screws and put it back together and yet they can't fix a leak in a convertible top? BS

I would find a local body shop that you trust and get them to have a look. The dealership told me me that a replacement top would cost $1100 and my local body shop quoted me 750 and that's parts and labor.

Re: What do you guys think?

try a shop that specializes in putting tops on a car etc they can probably fix it. You can ask the dealer or ask someone who is a good place to go to.

So I just fixed the top myself. There were two small holes worn into the back window glass cloth. I put some silicon on the hole and no more leak. Glad to see my local dealer couldn't figure that out. Glad I don't go to them for any engine work

They might replace a engine for a bad spark plug..
