Gas gauge issues...

K, so I was just wondering if a lot of ppl have this issue or if it's just the floater in my tank. But I will fill up and anywhere between 50-70 miles my needle will finally fall below the full mark. Within 10 more miles it will be on the 3/4 mark. Then it will sit there till about 90-100miles then drop to 1/2...so on and do forth. I normally get about 250 miles before u full up (not completely empty) normally averages 18-19 mpg when in do the math..

Re: Gas gauge issues...

mine (and my previous two mustangs with the same setup) always sat at full to half a tank longer than from half a tank to empty.

I have an 01 gt. A few places say it has a 15 gallon tank is that correct? When I fill up it only takes about 12. The needle gets really low but I have yet to see an oh sh*t light. I've only had it for a few months and I'm not sure there is a light?

Re: Gas gauge issues...

Yah there's definitely a low fuel light, I know from experience

My gauge does the same thing...I'll fill up to the first click, I'll get ~75 miles before the needle moves off the full mark, then it'll take about 20-30 miles and it'll be at 3/4...I think it's just something with our cars.

Currently I'm running off the tank of gas from storage...I've gone ~175 miles and I'm right on the 1/2 tank mark.

Think I should run it until the light comes on? I usually get about 200-210 on a tank but have never seen the low fuel light come on. My car is stock except for CAI.

I wouldn't cause you risk getting the crap in the bottom of te tank clogging up your filter...

Re: Gas gauge issues...

Damn I never thought you 2v guys were that far behind fuel usage wise...when I dd the car I used to average 320 a tank...and that was mixed driving and in colder conditions too. But I did have low miles, 17k-45k when I dd it.

Like I said before when I fill up I can only put 12g in. I've never seen the light come on but the needle is very low. Could there be something wrong?

Most likely not...next time you get that low run it a little farther...just be prepared to stop and get fuel as soon as you make sure it's working so you don't jam up ur filter

Lol me too brother..I know mine works, but I try to never let it get down that low. Before you try that see if the light comes on when you order start your car....I'm pretty sure mine does when it does the gauge check thing and all the lights light up..

My gas light Comes on when I turn the key but I haven't seen it when I'm low on gas. Could the light work but the gauge have something wrong and not actually give me a heads up?

Doubt it. Our cars have a 15 gallon tank....you probally have to get down to 2 gallon left for it to turn on and you said you always fill up like 12 gal...so it has not gotten low enough. I fill up almost every time and it takes 11gal...try it if you want, I wouldn't recommend it if you know the bulb works...just asking for trouble

My gas gauge only goes to half tank when I fill up and whenever it hits empty it actually means I have a half tank but I have seen the light come on many a times but only because my gauge is off alot

Yeah I understand your dilemma but that does not mean someone should run their tank that low to see if their light works...

No, it's not...I usually get 250 miles before I fill up (11gal fillup) but my gauge doesn't drop off of full normally till 70...this is rediculous...it's at 90 and almost to half tank when it's usually at 100 when it's at 3/4 tank....I'm usually pushin 130-150 when it's where it is in that pic...and I thought it was dropping fast there...

No I haven't yet, didn't know how. My main issue is not gas mileage (I average 18mpg), but just wondering if everyone's needle drops like mine. It's no where near a steady motion...

45-70 miles before it drops off the full line then 10 miles from the full line to the 3/4 line, then 30 more miles till its at half then it will sit there for a minute.

I mean my work is 28 miles away. I can get gas before I come home. Drive home, back to work, back home and still be around full. When I drive back to work the next day I'll be below 3/4 web I get there and below half by the time I get home.
