I dont get it...

Does anyone know why the rear wheels on mustangs are further inside the fenders than the front wheels?

Yep... Sadly... Technically it's kind of like a wedge of you could see it from a top view, skinnier at front and about 2 inches wider at the rear.

Ya I don't like that either it makes my back wheels look so sunk into the wheel well I'm thinking about spacers for the back to try to make them a little more flush with the fender!

Yea I mean it's not that bad by any means.. I've got staggered wheels. But I was just wondering cause there is a small difference between the front and back

I have deep dish.. They do fill it out. But if u look closely u can see that the front wheels stick out slightly more than the rears on every mustang

Re: I dont get it...

Back in 98ish or whenever Ford started designing the new edge body, they made secret pacts with all the aftermarket vendors, especially ones that sell staggered wheels and wheel spacers...they'll design the car with tucked wheels so we all have to go buy sh*t, and Ford receives a percentage from those sales in wheels and spacers

kidding of course...*disclaimer* not a factual statement by any means!

Be glad you didn't get a 99-01 v6 with the 15" wheels..those bad boys are REALLY tucked in, and the 99 cobra's rear wheels ...looks so weak on a "cobra".

No but really is it this way on all newer mustangs? Also ford offset the rear end so that it sticks out further on the passenger side than the driver side on the rear wheels.. Wtf?

Re: I dont get it...

Most vehicles have a wider front set up than the rear simply due to the engine being between the front wheels and needing space for the wheels to rotate left to right and such when turning. You'll notice it expecially on pick up trucks when you're follwing them. Looks like they're shifted over, or that their front is wider than the rear. Also as for the passenger side wheel being further out than the driver's side, I would guess it's because you can hug a curb or corner closer on the driver's side than the passenger's simply because you can see down the driver's side better.. but that could just be my lack of sleep coming into play..
