just bought 2000 cobra?

hi everyone.. i'm really new to the stang world having only owned a couple of cars before this.. can anyone help me with some info? i just came across my car a couple months ago.. this old guy was selling it. at first i thought it was just some fixed up mustang that a younger guy had, but now i'm not so sure. i thought that the price was high even for the really low miles it has, but i couldn't pass up having an extremely 'like new' mustang as my first mustang. the guy said that he had bought it for $55,000 a few years ago, but he was selling it to me for 30,000. i just recently moved so i can't track him down to ask questions about it. maybe you guys can help? all i know is that it's a 2000 cobra.. it's got all these "R's" all over it everywhere which i don't really like because it reminds me of all the ricers i see running around everywhere. i can't believe some old guy would fix up a mustang like this or even have one.. anyways, i need to know what the engine is in it. All it says is cobra, but it doesn't look like the engines i've seen in pics of other cobras.. can someone please help me figure all this out? did i just buy a 'ricer stang' for way too much money??

Just saw the pics in your garage! That has all the correct exterior parts and the engine looks correct! If that's all numbers matching and low miles then you hav yourself a hell of a car! Idk about $30k.. But it's nice!

From your profile pics, you do have a Cobra R. It's an extremely rare car, like only 300 made.
I believe they were more then 55k new and 30k for a clean low mileage example seems a little cheap. These cars are two things.. Ppl either collect or race them. This is true of all three R's, the 93, 95, and 2000 as they are in limited supply. Before you Mod or daily drive this car I suggest you do some research on you purchase.

Also certain aftermarket parts will be hard to find because these cars were not mass produced, mainly speaking on things like engine mods.

Let's see an under hood shot. If you have a legit cobra R, and you got out for 30, and your not sure about it our you want to dd the car I really urge you to put it up for sale. The cobra R is mustang royalty and three are beyond rare. you should be able to get 40 grand pretty easily.

Re: just bought 2000 cobra?

wow.. okay.. now i'm a little timid to drive it. i raelly haven't driven it at all. only put about 15 miles on it since i bought it because it's tough for me to drive. i have another car for my dd, but this was something i bought as a gift to myself because i've always really liked mustangs and really respected them, but if this is only 1 of 300 and it's really expensive than i'm not so sure about it.. would it be like sacreligious (sp) to drive it around just for fun? i don't wanna upset any hardcore enthusiasts or anything.. and i'm afraid if something were to happen to it like rock chips and stuff.. it stays in the garage most of the time with a car cover over it. if aftermarket parts are hard to come by for modding it, then where did the guy i got it from find the wing and hood and exhaust and stuff?? or are you talking like engine? cuz i was thinking about putting a supercharger on it like maybe from a ford gt or lightning? i know both of those have that size engine but i thought these style cobras had the 4.6L. a friend of mine has one that looks just like this but with the exhaust out the back and no wing, but his engine is supercharged and he doesn't have all the 'R's on it. i think he said his was an 04?? His paint is really cool though, it changes color.. would that be cool on this car?

Re: just bought 2000 cobra?

Yes that's a Cobra R.. I'm jealous. Have you posted these pics other places? I know being only 1/300 cars it probably gets a lot of attention, but I must say, SNK3 has a point. It does seem like these pics are 'popular'. I'm not doubting you bro, I understand that coincidences happen.. but I too am curious. Needless to say though, very nice find and congratulations on joining the Mustang community and welcome to the forum. Hope to see some more pics of that gorgeous ride on here in the near future!! Oh.. and I wanna ride, or better yet, LEMME DRIVE!!

i only have a camera on my phone so the pics i posted were the ones i saved on my computer from the website where i saw the car posted for sale and 2 of them were from my friend's camera. but i did look on google and was surprised to see them in other places. but now i know a little bit more about the 'R's. so what you're saying is that they came from ford with the exhaust like that and the wing and hood? looking at the pics on google i def don't like the front bumper that they have. looks like the front of a train. i like mine, but my friend's on his 04 looks better i think. i don't want to use it for racing, and i wont be putting a number on the side of it or anything like that. i'm a little afraid of the car now that i'm learning more about it and maybe i'll just sell it for more than i bought it for and not have to worry and try to find an 04 like my friend's. i really like cobras, but i only ever thought mustangs came in the v6, gt, and cobra, didn't know they made 'R' models. still deciding on what to do. is this one of those cars that will be worth a lot one day since there are only like 300? have any of those 300 been wrecked so now there aren't really even 300? i don't want it to get stolen or anything.

I'm with the idea of picture of your username in front of the Cobra itself w/ you holding it. This car is too rare for me to believe this SmH

I understand wanting to be part of the 'cool' group but you ain't gotta lie to kick it. So you don't own a Mustang, seems like ya can search the Internet so why don't you start reading up on our cars engines and mechanics and maybe join in on a forum with some helpful stuff instead of trolling trying to get someone to write back to you. You must be really lonely
