Body work help

Someone gave a me a 2001 Ford Mustang GT. Problem both quarter skins are rusted to hell. My question is, should I have the panels replaced or just worked on?

Re: Body work help

the quarter panels are not really bolted to the car, you have to cut them off/weld them back on

they might be so far gone that thats the best solution but I would get a body shops opinion to be safe.

I'm going to try a couple shops. Do you think it's better to get brand new panels or off a car that has been wrecked in the front?

Oem is almost always better because you don't know what condition the cat was in when the took them off and if they got tweaked then your going to have filler all over your quarters and also if the other quarters are rusted too they will have to take away metal to get rid of the rust and put a rust fighter on it to neutralize it. All in all if they aren't rusted holes in it try and get it fixed and repainted and just make sure they use all there rust protection, if it's to bad get them replaced its more expensive but worth it.

You're panels are too far gone to have them worked on it would take a lot longer to graph in a patch panel then it would to replace them. I also noticed that the driver side panel is so bad that the inner wheel well is most likely going to have to be replaced. U can find a set of good used quarters if you look around. I live on Illinois and labor rates are $100 a hour going by those rates you are looking at about $2000 to replace the panels plus another $300 for the wheel well and that's not including the $600 for used quaters and the cost of paint estimate $300 for each panel .

You can go to a junkyard and cut out the parts you need and then have them welded on and smooth it out with a grinder then have some place paint it for about 500$

I used to work at a body shop, get it replaced. All they are going to do is bondo it and paint it but the problem is still there. I doubt the price is going to be much different to just go to junk yard, get two quarters and have body shop paint them for you.
