Re: octane boost

I trust Lucas before most other products besides Amsoil. My question is, why do you need octane boost? Are you not able to get 91 or 93 where you live? Or are you trying to save a little bit but still have the power?? Just curious. I never put much stock in octane boost, but I still have a lot of R+D to do with it...

Re: octane boost

no, i can get 91 or 93... was just curious and anxious to try the 91 tune, but have 87 in the tank. just thought i'd give it a try

btw, have you got a tuner? ( i don't remember) i know you have engineering background, and spark and a/f mixture are 2 things user can adjust. reason i ask is even on the 87 tune (which really impressed me) car goes like banshee, first through 3rd. in 4th and 5th still good, but it could use a little more power.

now that i thinking about it, as my car manual and not auto, probably wouldn't help. maybe better to get my exhaust in, and do the gears

Re: octane boost

One thing you can do with your tuner is depending on your elevation, you can advance your ignition timing 1.5 degrees per 1000 feet above sea level. When you're in 4th, you're at a 1:1 ratio in your transmission (someone correct me on that if I'm wrong) so you're going on pure engine, and 5th is considered an overdrive gear. At this point when you're at high RPMs over 3500, you'll notice that aftermarket coils will start helping out. May be another option to consider. A full exhaust would CERTAINLY help as well, especially long tube headers.. and if you get them and can swing the cost, go with ceramic coated ones. Gears will also help it scream off the line, but will lower your top speed, however, since it takes a bit anyways for our cars to get up around 135 and over, a set of 3.73's will get you to 140 - 145 by the time your starting to max your RPM's in fifth. Hope all this helps!

Re: octane boost

thanks as always... will do a little more reading, or bounce off the tuner, before i mess with it. long tubes are out, HOWEVER my new cat back shipped yesterday, and i think i am going to get the mac pro chamber, or just a straight h pipe

if you saw post in other thread, yes cop's and new plugs to be done very soon as well!

3.73 gears later this summer (i hate to have someone else work on my car!), but i really don't think i can handle it. 145 mph not an issue my friend. i got a phuk!ng ticket the other day on my way(not on the way back!) to pick up my tuner; 72 in 55, and saw troopers 10 times after that on the trip. including the same one issuing another ticket on the n.b. side, while i was traveling home! ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Sounds like one of those days where it was just bad timing to be having fun.. I'm sorry to hear that man!! I would go straight H, but that's just me and I don't have the lame emissions laws here

Re: octane boost

thanks for the sympathy. mine own fault actually, as i got between 2 cars, and was hanging in the left lane by myself. came over crest, started down hill, he spotted me, and shot. i immediately moved to right lane, hit blinker and started to slow as i knew he was gonna come.

messed up thing is i wasn't even in a hurry, and it's damn hard to stay at 55 on the parkway when there's is next to no one on the road.

What would happen if you ran low grade fuel on a 93 octane or custom "race" tune

I basically did this.... I purchased 93 gas and believe I received bad gas or lower octane than I purchased.

this caused detonation (was using to much timing for to low octane). My car has no knock sensor so it wont stop detonation.

It sounds like marbles bouncing around. I had to simply stay out of boost and not put any load on the car (drive it easy) until the gas was gone.
