Buy or make O2 sensor extenders

Bout to install my LT's and in gonna need to lengthen my oxygen sensors..

I can order a set for around $20 or so

But was thinking. Wondering if I could just go to a junk yard and cut the sensor and the harness ends and make them myself for a whole lot cheaper.
Would That work? And what years would the sensor ends run
