About to join the V8 club

Well dropped off my 02 V6 vert yesterday to become completely turned into a SOHC 4.6. Most ppl probably think why not just buy a GT, well I've been a member since 2006 and owned this car since I was 17(bought new in Jan 02). I've also been slowly modding the car and prepping for something nicermto reside in the engine bay. Car currently has the following done:

1. MM full length subframe connectors and Mm caster camber plates.
2. Steeda competition springs.
3. Tokico blue/Mach 1/HP struts/ shocks.
4. Bullitt 17x8's with 245/45/17.

Doing some upgrades too but just a few bolt ons for now including the following:

1. Drivetrain 50k mile GT motor, T-45, and 8.8 out of a 2000 Roush stage 1.
2. PA performance tubular k member ( after reading the horror stories with long tubes felt this was necessary and nothing liken taking 35 lbs off the car).
3. PA performance A-arms.
4. MAC long tube headers (chrome)
5. MAC pro-chamber mid pipe to be bolted up to my original 40 series flowmasters and GT tailpipes.
6. AFE cold air intake.

Install should be done by April 30. wish me luck.

Re: About to join the V8 club

Very cool...yah I would imagine most people would tell you to sell that car and buy a v8 but I can understand where you're coming from. Sentimental feelings go a long way...I'll probably do the same thing with mine once the 3.8 gives out.

Good luck and keep up updated

Re: About to join the V8 club

Thanks guys yea I wanted to make sure the suspension was right and although I love mm parts their k members require coil overs and that gets pricy although I'm sure it's worth it for those very serious I just felt that utilizing my steeda springs with the PA k member would be a better option especially since this car Will see few Track appearances....for now. Yea sonic my 3.8 was still kicking great with almost 154k on the clock and only a slight slippage in the tranny.

Sounds like a very thought out and informed build. When people ask about my car it's rewarding in itself to start off with "well, it used to be a v6, automatic..." haha.

Definitely keep us posted on progress

Re: About to join the V8 club

Roger that should have it all together in about 1-2 weeks if time/work allows. I could have gone with a stock K-member for a 4.6, but by utilizing an aftermarket PA performance K-member youmfreemup a lot of room for header installs and for starter replacement. Ohh and this k-member and A arms shed 38 lbs off the front end

Re: About to join the V8 club

I'm thinking of buyin a donor Cobra.. just get everything from the engine and all that, and drop it in my Stang. its a 96 with a 98 V8. i already swapped engines once, so do you guys think doing it again would be bad? I would take out the full engine and wiring harness, computer, everything pretty much... or would it be smarter to keep my 4.6 and mod it so its great? Forged internals, headers, supercharger, Pi intake, Pi heads, new gaskets on everything, new hoses in the whole engine compartment, new fuel lines, new injectors and spark plugs, EVRYTHING. haha. I want to get around 600 horses or maybe 500... but i want to do it right...

Re: About to join the V8 club

Depends on your goals. I bought motor tranny and rear end from MPS auto salvage. Triple X Motorsports doing the install. I did the rear end install, however lifts are a must in my opinion for motor installs. Cobra swap would be expensive Just to get in that form, however 2Vs can lay down 500-600 with correct mods. Total cost about 5k with headers, prochamber, performance k member & A-arms, CAI (basically all the stuff that I wanted to upgrade while the motor is out of the car). Could of done it for about 4k if I picked up the parts.

Very nice..cool to see the pics as they progress. I like the pic of the interior completely gutted, dash, seats, assemblies..really give you a sense of how it looks in bare bones form.

That new k-member will be nice should you decide to lower it more than 1.75".

Yea it will car is lowered about 1.25 inches current with some steeds comp springs (progreasive rate) so it doesn't ride quite like a track car, yet still hugs corners well.

Re: About to join the V8 club

Swap is done! Car runs great compression in all 8 is good at 180 in each. A couple minor issues still being worked out. Mainly the t-45's throw out bearing is rattling like a mo-fo, but other than that the car sounds great. It's insane how much 67hp and 72 lbs of torque (GT vs 3.8) really makes. The rpms fly up quick and one thing that I love and most people will hound me for this is that is the fact that I'm using the 120mph cluster so my autometer lunar gauges are going back in ASAP. I really think the numbers are easier to read and chances of me going 120+ is not likely. Ate least any time soon. I'm going to have more pics up soon but just fig I'd post an update. All in all everything came to just under 3k for the insatll but I sold my3.8 motor/tranny for 400 so I got it all done for $2600. Great shop over 28 hours of labor so when you add it up it was worth it to me. Full exhaust and a 93 SCT Tune are the only mods for now. More to come from me in this forum now that my car is mod motorized.

Re: About to join the V8 club

Ok so i've been working out the little things here and there: bad intake manifold, some wiring issues, and a custum tune, but for about the last week and a half she has been running phenominal. I have one small issue still and that is the front rims actually hit the new tubular a-arms when I've got the wheel at least 78-80 percent turned (metal on metal, not tire on a-arm). So I'm going to use some spacers (1/2" and see how that turns out. If not I will just have to go back to 18"s. You can see the two scratches on the a-arms too when i zoom in on the pics. One of the nice things is that the tubular k-member allowed for the easy install of my new exhaust (MAC LT/Prochamber bolted to my 10 year old flowmaster mufflers and GT tailpipes) and the starter has a much easier access as well. Anyway Here are the wayyy past due pictures.

I see you ran the PA k member. Did you use their a arms too? I have the same k but running with stovk a arms right now and wanting to go tubular. Also do those a arms accept stock style ball joints? Id be swapping in steedas. And when you installed the k did it seem to raise the front of the car up slightly? Mine seemed that way

Yes I'm running the PA performance a-arms too, but read my last post just before the pics and see the issue I'm having. Yes also my car seemed to raise up a little in the front too. I think it's due to the increased strength of the steel that is used, thus the weight doesn't sit as low as it does with the stock k member. In regards to ball joints yes they look like stock style which in my opinion is a much better prdouct than the x2's because the OEM are high friction style ball joints as oppossed to steedas which are not.
