Is cobra Pistons, rods and crank for $200 a good deal?

Wow! Now you need grey hair and a big belly, then you'll fit in with the other Corvette owners LOLOL I'm totally kidding! I've always loved Vette's, even when I was young.

She looks excellent. Congrats man!

Just a cobra crank for $200 is a good deal. Just make sure it's legit and not an 8 bolt cast crank or anything. As far as rods and pistons... Unless they are out of a termi they are the same as the GT stuff.

Out of a termi then? There are plenty of compression calculators out there. Need the CC of your heads, info for your pistons and a few other things.

Also, please get that crankshaft off the concrete... that's making me cringe from here lol. They are like eggshells.

In the pic it was on a rubber mat, idk if he did that for pic or what. Right now I have it standing up in my garage. Gonna lay it down in the motor where it goes until I need it to prevent damage

I know stock heads are 42.45cc or something like that.

These are some Pistons I have sitting around that I could use, but would require boring out and sleeving the block.

3.700" (94mm) Bore, 1.155 C/D, 1.00mm, 1.200mm, 2.800mm Ring Grooves, Dished (17.00cc's)

Full Floating .927" x 2.500" Pin, Piston Weight: 354g (nominal)

Will Work with 6.00" Length Rods

I just went and checked on my crankshaft. I'm happy to report that it is fine!
I did get it off of the concrete though!

Last thing you need is for it to roll or move and get nicked on something honestly. I kept mine wrapped in a towel damp with fogging oil wrapped in another towel that was dry and in a cardboard box on the bottom shelf in my garage. Keeps it from corroding at all and safe from falling.

Oil... That fogs!

It's what you spray on parts to keep them from rusting. Like when you get a fresh block back from the shop, you nuke that ****er with fogging oil and wrap it in plastic.

It sucks so much you find yourself scanning CL/classifieds sections of forums every day looking for that "gem" for dirt cheap like something mint but with a blown motor that just needs a simple pull/drop in or a rebuild. I kind of found one near me... 2001 Cobra with 53k original miles but salvage title and blown motor for $5k. I mean it looks like its in great shape and its on a forum not CL and the salvage was from the car hitting a huge puddle and hydrolocking the motor apparently with no other water damage anywhere.

But 1- I don't have the biggest garage in the world right now, 2- I need knee surgery most likely and 3- Wife would probably murder my *** if I spent $5k on something that didn't run.

Know what you mean lol, I am always looking for that deal you can't pass up! Almost went for a 2004 Cobra that had some front end damage and it would have had a salvage title. He was asking 10k for it, and estimating around 5k in body work to get it looking good again.

Not sure what they go for now as donor cars. I know as recently as a few years ago you could a wrecked donor car with most or all of the big parts working 100% for $6500. Dude wanted way too damn much if he wanted $10k unless the frame was straight. Then its a new rad support/fenders/hood/bumper and go.

Just got done a like seriously 30 minute scouring of local CL ads for a blown motor 99-04GT for $2k or less and nothing decent. Honestly CL should be changed to "seemingly good deals for idiots and overpriced crap for enthusiasts". Your 2001 V6 with 150k is not worth $5,000 doesn't matter how well it runs. Neither is the 04GT with 50k miles for $14k lol. One I did see that was probably nice was a bone stock 98GT convertible with 53k miles for $5k. That blown motor 01 Cobra for $5k is starting to tempt me... argh.

I think if they post the price for one dollar they should be forced to sell it for that cheap.

If it wasn't a salvage title I'd be all over it. Although cars like that that you think just need a fresh motor and go... never the case.

I saved 120$ a month removing the mustang from ins. Bike ins is 181/yr....I love my mustang, but I'll hold off on another one for a minute.

My insurance plummeted like a rock when I turned 25 and then more when I got married. Liability only for my 98GT was $20/mo lol. No points/married/25+ in NJ.

Thats liability, comprehensive is what raises ins the most. I was paying 244 for full coverage on a 2004 f150, 2005 dodge neon, 2002 mustang gt and a 2000 Honda Civic. Removing the mustang dropped it to 116 a month. Then the bikes ins is $20 a month for full coverage with $200 deductible and 250k/500k coverages.

For my wife and I (0 points for either of us), right now we pay $105 per month for full coverage on an Expedition and a CRV. I would definitely put full coverage on a real nice Mustang (likely would be making payments so would have to anyway) but something like my 98 or a project SN95 (or even a nicer low mileage 94-01 Cobra) I would just do liability.

I can fix pretty much everything on a SN95 myself. Major body work=find a clean V6 shell and swap everything over.

You guys have some good rates. For my wife and I, we too have 0 points, and I pay 260 a month for 2 with full broad form coverage, and my mustang with just liability. Michigan is one if not the most expensive for insurance. I've shopped around and for the coverage we have it is typically more or not enough less to make it worth it to swap.

NJ is horrific for car insurance... all depends on the vehicles too. I actually never did call my insurance to see how much a Coyote or GT500 would be, probably should do that as a big monthly insurance bill could sway me to buy another project honestly.

However, try shopping around to some of the "smaller" companies. I use esurance which gives me even better rates than USAA does which is almost unheard of.
