But $1000 for a complete motor is a good price

Re: Glad to join.. Hope to get help..

Keep in mind those Crown Vics 4.6l's weren't rated the same as the mustangs' 4.6L's.

I think the highest rated 2v in a crown vic was the police interceptor from 04 up ~250hp and 297 tq vs the GT's 2v: 260hp and 302 tq.

Also the engine designs changed slightly throughout the years, the biggest way to tell is by knowing which plant the engine came from, Windsor or Romeo.

Main bearings were different, camshaft gears, crankshaft bolts, valve cover bolts etc. Sometimes this is important as parts from one engine aren't always compatible with the other engine.

The PI overhaul was done to the Crown Vics' 2v's in 01...so I'd try and get one from 01 or up...the 2v PI from the crown vic was rated at 235 hp and 275 tq.

Re: Glad to join.. Hope to get help..

Quick snag of the thread.. Could you put a 99-04 4.6 in a 96 body? I already swapped the stock v6 for a 4.6 from 98 but wanna build up a motor from the block up, so it'd help with stock PI intake and heads lol

Re: Glad to join.. Hope to get help..

No problem, we're always glad to help

Yah I'd probably want another mustang engine in the car too...the only way I'd put a different engine was if it was a 5.4L from the Lightnings or something along those lines.

Keep us updated...

Well that's the thing...a lot of times the truck/suv engines are built for diffrent purposes...so the hp and tq numbers aren't what you expect or really want. A 5.4L block out of an F150 is nice for an engine build, but I'm not sure if a complete engine would be best. Also most truck/suv v8's are paired to bigger, heavier automatic transmissions, so I don't know if a manual conversion would simply bolt up.

As far as mustang engines, the 96-98 GT 2v's were non PI (performance improved) engines, so they were rated at lesser hp than the 99-04 engines.

215hp 285tq (96-97)
225hp 290tq (98)

The 99-04 2v v8's out of the GT's were rated 260hp and 302tq. So that's probably the year range I'd shoot for to put in your 02.

The 5.4 is almost a direct swap, to bolt your man trans make sure you have a manual flywheel and bolt your clutch and trans to it. You'll have potential for more hp out of the 5.4 over the 4.6.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread too since I blew the engine on my '02 GT a week ago too.

Finding the right engine is becoming a pain in the butt for me..

The 4.6 trans will bolt up just fine as long as you have the correct flywheel for your app.

Here's a write up to help with your decision.

You never know, he coulda been doing donuts in a field and not on the road. Though I agree that nothing good can happen behind the wheel of a car intoxicated.

True, however although I do not have the statistics I doubt most ppl blow their engines doing donuts in a field which would be funny to me a spectator, but not as an owner.

Hello....sorry I've been away and havens updated...

---------- Post added at 08:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:30 PM ----------

And back again with questions for u guys.... Hopefully I'll make a descision.... I'm trying to fix my car .. Remembering to stay as low on the price.... But here are my options at this moment.... A 2004 gt engine with 54k for $1000... A 2001 svt cobra engine with 88k for $2000... and a 2008 gt 4.6 engine with 48k for $1500.....
What would be the best option? And me havin a 2002 gt what would be the easiest most convenient swap? Thanks hope to get help like always..
