Exclamation 99 Gt VS 06 Dodge Ram 5.7l

A buddy keeps running his mouth saying he could stomp my 99 Gt in his 06 Dodge Ram in a 1/4 mile race. His truck has a 5.7l in it and its the 4 door truck. He said he has a programmer, and I'm bone stock.

What do you guys think?

His engine may be a lot bigger and more powerful than yours, but think of how much heavier his car is than yours.

I don't think it will my dad had a 4 door ram 5.7 and it wasn't that quick due to the truck being really heavy

Lol I have a buddy with a 05 Daytona ram that didn't stand a chance. You have to realize that those trucks are heavy as hell. Plus even if it's a srt-10 you would stand a great chance. The srt10 is over exaggerated with its abilities. Sure it's got a viper engine in it but 1 it's toned down 2 the engine is heavier then their stock engine and 3 IT'S A TRUCK, they are a brick and have a much higher loss through the drivetrain because of the bigger heavier components. Srt10s are known to only run high 13s modded.

I think the only "performance" truck ever built worth a damn is a lightning.

Your 99 should have more HP per pound than the Ram. Drivers equal, should be no prob.

My buddy has a 09 Ram Hemi and he loses to my 02 GT. You want a better challenge against a truck.....race a new Tundra! They are fast at take off but the long run they can't hang. I raced a lighting and won 1-3 times. Crazy quick!

Your right lol it is the only one. The gmc cyclone was actually an animal but there's a bit of a size difference. Ford originally made a design to use the lightning engine in the ranger as well but scrapped it I believe. I don't think they ever actually made any. That would be a monster.

Re: 99 Gt VS 06 Dodge Ram 5.7l

I've raced a new '12 Tundra before, he was with me until the end of 2nd gear and then I walked away pretty quick. I'm not too worried about this "Dodge Ram" lol I figured I could take him because I took the Tundra, but I wanted to know if it would be close because of the programmer. I know it's suppose to wake it up alot.

The tuners do more for diesel trucks than gas...the sct guy told me the new turbo diesel fords will walk all over a mustang after tuned...

Yeah a guy I know at the college has a new F-250 Super Duty and that thing is FAST! And it's bone stock. But then again, I don't really consider something that's twin turbo to be stock..I mean yeah the truck is huge but a twin turbo can make a tank fast lol

I have a twin turbo f-250 it's really quick, once you get on it the turbo pressure builds up and it starts moving.
My grandpa has a dodge 2500 programmed an it's really really fast I bet in can keep up with my car and beat a stock Gt

Easy win for the GT due to power to weight.

Idk man it's really fast I think a stock Gt would have trouble with it. I don't think it would be a runaway race it would be close

True my dad has a 12 challenger rt with the 5.7 and it runs in the mid to low 14s not bad but that is a brand new car lots lighter than a truck

It's all about power to weight ratios. The gt weights 3400-3500 pounds with 265 HP compared to a car that weighs close to 6000

Re: 99 Gt VS 06 Dodge Ram 5.7l

Lol from the sounds of it, I might wana get a few mods put on before I race him just to be safe?
I drove a programmed Dodge Ram before but it was the diesel not the gas engine. And it was fast but not as fast as I expected, I think my Gt could have taken the Diesel Ram I drove.

Re: 99 Gt VS 06 Dodge Ram 5.7l

Just remember guys, no street racing...keep it all on the track

As far as the GT vs the 5.7 Ram on the TRACK...you should be fine in a 1/4 drag on the TRACK...power to weight goes a long way, not to mention gearing and the truck's transmission shift points...if it's a 4wd, the shifting is most likely geared for towing and low end torque, nothing for top end.

99% of the trucks out there are not going to outrun a GT on the TRACK...exceptions being tuned diesels, modded Lightnings and Ram SRT-10's...oh and the SVT Raptors, those b*stards are quick

Re: 99 Gt VS 06 Dodge Ram 5.7l

We always keep it on the TRACK. I love racing on the TRACK. I would never race off the TRACK. lol Too many people get killed street racing. Especially these idiots doing it at the stoplights in the intersection.

And I'm not super worried about it too much, but if I did by some chance loose, I'd never hear the end of it. He's just an *** like that lol

Re: 99 Gt VS 06 Dodge Ram 5.7l

lol, we have a strict no street racing threads policy here at M.E., but if it's regarding a match up on the TRACK, I have no issue with it, hence at the TRACK

What if it's not on a TRACK but is on a private lane on a friends farm that leads to other corn fields? Is that illegal?

I've been heard some pretty poor performance about the raptors. Supercharged I've heard they only push mid 13s

Re: 99 Gt VS 06 Dodge Ram 5.7l

Ok, I have a question...I live way out in the middle of nowhere and my buddies dad has a crop dusting company, he sometimes lets us use his plane strip to run the cars on. We aren't putting anyone in danger by doing this. Is it ok to mention us using that track on here? I mean if it's not, I have no problem with it, just curious if that's ok. It's nothing to do with street racing..

I don't see a problem with it. There's no speed limit on a runway. As long as your not gonna lose control and fly into someone's house.

Well I have seen PLENTY of times that people say no "street" racing. So I'm guessing as long as its not in the street. It should be ok

Yeah there are no houses around it for at least a mile. Even his house is far enough away for him to drive to it.

I don't see any problem with it. I just wish I had a place to do that and not have to worry about being pulled over. We're I live we have dirt ovals and stuff like that but no drag strip for over 100 miles. And the city refuses to allow a drag strip because it's to dangerous lol amazing

Yah I guess if it's on private property it's fine...just refer to it as the local track
